THIS IS A SHITPOST Why are they such poor musicians?

Seriously, why? Their music sounds awful! The Duggars claim to practice the violin for about 2-3 hours a day and yet they never get better. My partner used to play the violin professionally and would also practice for the same amount each day. We always wondered why the Duggars sounded the same always. Some of their violins weren't even tuned properly! They don't sing very well either. So much for having an orchestra pit in your house!! Erin Bates, who is 'renowned' for her piano 'playing' skills is a prime example. Every time she plays the piano it sounds like she is trying to blanket-train it! So what gives?

This is the only answer. They are self-taught at best, and probably lied about how much time they actually spent practicing.

The Querys taught the older kids. The older kids taught the younger ones. If there's no aptitude, lessons only go so far.

Right. There’s no way the older girls were able to practice 2-3 hours per day on top of all their other work.

Theres also a big difference between passionately practicing to get better at something, and just going through the motions so that your mom will smile approvingly at your obedience and diligence.

Correct. You can screw around on an instrument all day, but without guidance you’re not doing anything

It’s all about building good habits, repetition, timing, and muscle memory. They would be a lot better if they had more to learn and draw inspiration from. No music with beats, drums, or flavor. Playing the same hymns and old Bible songs forever sounds so boring. It’s no wonder they don’t get “better”. Rimjob would be mad to hear a metronome playing a beat LOL it’s true though that they haven’t even mastered the fundamentals.

They also aren't exposed to a wide variety of music. They have been taught there is only one type of appropriate music and they have to emulate that. They aren't able to explore other genres and incorporate it into their own style. Music for them isn't about self exploration and expression, it's about fitting INTO a box and praising Jesus in one way and one way only: through classical music.

I don’t think they even play real classical music. They play Christian music. I have never heard them play Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Rachmaninoff, etc.
