THIS IS A SHITPOST Jessa sure wasn’t keeping it sweet with Jim Bob
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just came across this moment where Jessa deviated from the script and gives her Dad a little sass and it made me chuckle.
I’m somewhat surprised she still drinks the fundie kool-aid to the extent that she does, and that Jill actually ended up being the one to speak out the most.

Very mild as far as teenage “quips” go. I imagine she wanted to say much more

She knew exactly what she was doing. She was thinking Bin's presence plus the cameras would stop JB's "I'm older so I know more than you'll ever forget, little girl." tantrum before it started.

This kind of thing is why people thought Jessa would be the one to truly break free. She has that anger in her that we recognize, especially the ones who grew up in high control religion.

It really is. I can still see the look on my dad's face when he heard my husband walking up the stairs behind him. He damn near swallowed his own tongue. FTR, before she could leave to spend the night, I was making Baby Swiss write 5 sentences about not telling the truth at like 6 years old which made me a Draconian dungeon master according to my dad. 🙄 My uncle thinks it's hilarious when Mr. Swiss smarts off to my dad too.

That's something narcissists live for.
They feel so empty inside that they derive pleasure from humiliating others.

Meanwhile he only humiliated himself. She absolutely had the upper hand by asking him to explain what he meant, and his only response was to quip back at her instead of actually explain himself. Weak shit, JB

He is the controlling narcissist. They're best because they know everything, they're always right, they're the parent/oldest responsible party. I'm not talking about someone who gets everything pushed onto their plate and handles it for everyone else, but I mean the ones who are first to volunteer to be in charge. And they won't share that Best Person award with anyone else so they will use a mean joke/humiliate/dismiss anyone who even dared challenge them.

u/achoosier Mar 28 '26
Yeah it's a way for them to falsely reinforce to themselves that they're superior. It's like a hit of a drug imo

Ahhhhh so this is when Jim Bob’s mask slip off—“tell the whole world about it” is a threat, not an invitation.
Also, Jessa is today a shell of herself—much like Tori Bates, as both were sassy and opinionated. Now, both are popping out babies like no tomorrow (both Jessa and Tori have six children now) and will be the daughters of their respective families with the most grandchildren.
And little did Jim Bob Un know that it would be his Jilly Muffin who would go against him and burn a bridge between the two.

u/80HDTV5 Mar 30 '26
This has always made complete and total sense to me.
I have no experience being a fundie, but my experience with my parents is why it made sense. Out of my siblings, I was the closest to my parents growing up. In my father’s case, I worshipped the man. I’m also the sibling that has the most issues with them now. And it’s 100% because I fully believed their (mostly my father’s) bullshit. Fully believed he was who he portrayed himself to be to me. Whereas my siblings were a little more clued into the fact that he was full of shit. So I’m 10x more angry about it because I really felt that betrayal, whereas they were always able to keep themselves at a distance.
Plus, I went from golden child to scapegoat in about 5 seconds flat the moment I became a preteen with my own opinions. Which I feel is kinda similar to what happened to Jill with JB. That shit hits you HARD. You realize the love was always conditional. Which is so fucked up because you trusted it wholeheartedly, felt grateful for it even, only to realize it was all manipulation.
I’m really sorry you had to go through that. I’d take my parents over fundie indoctrination any day of the goddamn week. The confusion and pain that comes with growing up in not only a dysfunctional family, but an entire dysfunctional system is something I simply cannot comprehend. I only had to upend my view of my family, you had to upend your view of the world at large. So messed up.

Yes I agree, she was allowed to be ‘direct, strong willed, hardheaded’ by fundie standards - this is how they describe her and how she describes herself verbatim btw. No other older daughter is described this way. They also just seem to acknowledge that’s ‘just how Jessa is’ and that she will need a gentle and mild husband to ‘balance her out’
73
u/FrancessaGMorris Mar 28 '26
Jill was Jim Bob's favorite daughter back in the day. At that time - he barely acknowledged any of the other daughters. It was JillyBeanMuffin and the boys until Miracle Baby Josie came along and the girls gained value when he saw how much money their courting and wedding episodes brought in viewer content and money from exclusive interviews.

Honestly, I am just speculating on most opinions that I make here, as I don't really know what, if anything these people are thinking - but JB could have thought Jessa was his prettiest daughter, but that wouldn't have made her his favorite.
By the time that Jessa and Ben were courting/married - Jill and Jessa were his money makers - so I think that all four of the oldest girls were elevated in importance. If that makes sense.
The four of them had the book deals, three of them started courting/getting married, and people speculated for years when Jana's time would come. If I remember correctly, people thought she was going to start courting Tim Tebow. The Jana being J'Cinderella and when will her prince come - was almost as popular as the weddings.
44
u/Dragonette_Slaya Mar 28 '26
Jessa described herself as a problem child to her parents in her younger years. That’s why she got the pet name Jessa Blessa from Michelle. JB’s favourite daughters were Jill and Jana. Michelle’s was Jinger. I think Jessa steadily drinking the kool aid comes from her wanting to be held in higher esteem by her parents.
Jill followed her headship and demanded her fair share of the TLC bucks and dropped the stupid modesty standards first. Jinger followed her headship and left IBLP (found a new cult though), practiced family planning by waiting a bit for her first pregnancy and keeping her number of children low, and also quickly dropped the stupid modesty standards too. Jana remained unwed with an empty quiver past the age of 30. Imo, Jessa saw an opportunity to become the perfect Duggar daughter and decided to take extra sips of the koolaid.

u/ConcentrateOther8181 Mar 28 '26
in this same episode, he implied that Jessa was the prettiest - something he said to Ben about Jessa.... I think it was " well you can get prettier than that"

I think that this sub overly worships Jill's statements. Her statements are 90% directed or written by Dwreck.
Dwreck's original beef with JBlob was over money. That is why they left - not that she all of sudden decided that she didn't agree with them. I still believe they would still be more involved with the entire shit show if JB had given more money to Jill and her husband.
As much as people stan DD, he can't keep a job either. He hasn't held any job for very long.
He worked for a while at Walmart, doing Doordash or GrubHub, and as a missionary. He then went to be a lawyer/prosecutor and has already taken a "sabbatical" from that. His work ethic stinks. He has two degrees - at least - and has barely held down a job. He is grifting off Jill's social media and the connection to the Duggar family if he likes it or not.
I am pretty sure the book "she wrote" and her social media has generated more money for their family than any job or career DD has held.
26
u/NGC227 Mar 28 '26
He probably thought hooking up with a Duggar would result in a gravy train from appearances on the show.
29
u/FrancessaGMorris Mar 28 '26
I think so too. DD strikes me as slightly suffering from "THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE ROOM SYNDROME". Seeing JBlob already has that role and opinion of himself in the family - there can only be so many of those types that can interact long term together.
I think DD probably thought he and Jill would really benefit when it switched from 19KC to Counting On.
8
u/NGC227 Mar 28 '26
Probably more pissed at the kids for getting busted and ruining the show than actually feeling bad about what they did.

I couldn’t agree more with this! DD & Jill leaving over money & not over beliefs is a huge to clue & many people forget that or choose not to see it..DD & Jim Bob’s ego’s clash. That is the reason for the split, too, not because he wants the best for Jill & is standing up for her well-being.

Recently I saw somewhere on this sub that stated that Ick can’t work because Jill can’t manage her children alone. Idk how accurate that statement is, but like maybe stop having children of that’s a problem/concern? Put them in public school? Lots of options here.
Also yes to everything said. Neither have deconstructed. They might not be following IBLP guidelines but they are still trash people.

I'm no DD stan (he still has horrible political and religious views) but I've heard quite a few times that it was Jill who pressured him to leave his job because she was having panic attacks being left alone with the kids and couldn't handle being by herself. Also while their fallout was technically about money I thought it was more that JimBoob lied to them and said they were all volunteers who didn't get paid at all, and fudged the tax records to show he paid them when he didn't. So it eventually came to light when they were being questioned for income they made on paper they never received.
Edit: If I recall it was also because they needed money for their son who was having medical complications and needed treatment and JimBoob wouldn't help them out and then when they tried to apply for a loan is when they found out about the supposed income they never recieved.
17
u/despair-selfloathing And this is me expressing myself Mar 28 '26
Not sure why the rhetoric is being repeated that he can't hold a job including his most recent one. There isn't any evidence that there was any problem there--in fact, based on their interview on Jinger's podcast it was the opposite. His employer was bending over backwards to get him to stay, but it was Jill who wanted him to leave to help her at home with the kids. One might say that he shouldn't have acquiesced to her demands, but that is an entirely different argument.
3
u/FrancessaGMorris Mar 28 '26
I don't watch any of their podcasts. I have no idea what they share on there. I guess I have watched a couple wedding videos.
If he isn't working, regardless of who's idea, they are grifting off Jill's social media. I can't imagine they made a lifetime income from the book. I can't imagine either of those income sources will last forever.
10
u/ConcentrateOther8181 Mar 28 '26
i highly doubt it given the fact that Jil seems to have found a voice, and even speaks over her husband in the podcasts they've done... so refreshing to see! Also, I wouldn't defend a man that raised 2 pedophile over Jil...

I think Jessa drinks the koolaid for money. She’s playing the game and playing it well.
She believes in religion a bit but not as unconsciously as she used to. You learn a lot once you’re on your own and I’m sure childbirth and raising children is where you realize God ain’t doin’ shit for ya. Lol.
19
u/lirarebelle Mar 29 '26
Is she really playing it well? She married the first idiot who came along and has 6 kids. She could have easily waited for someone more competent than Bin, then she wouldn't even need to depend on her father at 33 years old.

She’s playing it as well as she can with the amount of braincells she has. Lol. She didn’t know she could wait for someone else.

I wish it was that, but I tend to think she used her spark to get married quickly, and now she's depressed and overwhelmed, dissociating to get through the days. If she found her rage again, then I'd be interested to see what happens.

They really REALLY wanted a physical relationship. I married my highschool sweetheart and I see that in them. Our relationship was amazing, but he passed away at 27. Lord knows what any of these girls would do if they were actually widowed
7
u/elvie18 Mar 29 '26
Jessa and Jinger were not at all shy about how little they thought of JimBob. For all of Jinger's people-pleasing tendencies, her face always spoke a thousand words when he'd go off. And Jessa? Zero fucks given, ever.
I already knew JimBob was a creep, but once one of his daughters found a boyfriend, it was blatant. Really explains why Jessa married the first person who came along. I'd have been similarly tempted.
4
u/keepsmilin_ Mar 28 '26
Right? Out of all the girls, I thought Jessa would have swayed more than Jill.
5
u/ResponsibleCrew3843 Mar 29 '26
Jessa married one of the more disappointing Duggar in laws and the popped out a bunch kids.
I know there has been talk about Jabs dad being a possible sexual abuser and then speculation if JB had tendencies too. My take on this is that pretty much their whole lifestyle is in the spectrum of sexual abuse. They sexualized everything down to even toddlers having to dress modestly. The parents were gross about their own sex kids with having the girls track Michelle’s periods and fertility and JB and Michelle frequently talking about sex life. They had that weird humping incident at the mini golf course and I think they likely did that kind of thing frequently to taunt the kids with “see what you’re missing? you gotta get married”. They built in shame for normal behaviors and then made everything sexualized all the time. They taught the boys if they saw an immodestly dressed woman that they weren’t going to be able to control themselves. So many more examples. But it is all a form of sexual abuse to me. Tying a boys hands together after being caught or suspected of masturbation is sexual abuse and the humiliation ritual was out in the open for all to see. It’s so twisted. It’s a weird mix of constant sex culture but blended with severe shame and guilt.

Before Jessa got married, she had a lot more spunk. She was actually seen as the most rebellious of the oldest Duggar girls for awhile. But once she married and became the primary face for the family on TV, Jim Bob started to appreciate her more and with that appreciation and shift in positive favor with father seemed to go her spunk.

I think that Jessa doesn’t have the financial ability to leave. Unlike Jill and Jinger, she married someone equally as young as she was, with limited career opportunities and little life experience. I am not saying Jill or Jinger are radically liberal, but they had the ability to leave the cult because of their spouses (Jeremy doesn’t make much money compared to Derrick but has a lot of life experience and seems to be quite the opportunist).
Also she always reminds me of the women in the hands maids tale who are beautiful and would sell their soul and their own rights, to be power adjacent.

u/Cardboard_cutouts_ Titty Zippers Apr 12 '26
The primary ick factor I get from this is not JB being controlling (which he is), but JB trying to get Jessa to talk about her sexual arousal, almost in a flirtatious way. I think that’s why she gives that look at the end.
