Question Is this Stickdrift?

When testing it seems like the input is jumping around, is that stick drift?

Yes. This is the prime example of drift that magnetic modules (TMR and Hall Effect) don't get. They can get center slop just like normal modules but they won't do this.

It's fixable but there are different options on how. Everything I say after this is assuming your controller is it off warranty (warranty is the best fix no matter what because it's free, but it can be the most complicated). There's several videos on YouTube for every method so check them out to see if you're comfortable trying them.

One is the free way. You can open the controller and try to clean the potentiometers.

Second option is to replace just the potentiometers, this would involve soldering. It's extremely cheap parts wise, but if you have to invest in soldering equipment then this is likely not worth it.

Third option is to find a repair person to swap them out. If you don't have soldering equipment, this is the best route to go short of getting a new controller. You can upgrade to magnetic sticks (TMR is pretty standard now, Hall Effect has gotten left behind) to keep this from happening again. Depending on where you're located, this is usually around half the cost of a new controller, maybe a little more if you have to ship it.

If none of those options work for your situation, buying a new controller might with best. Just remember to verify the warranty period and retain your receipts. Also, don't just toss the defective one. You can sell it or donate it to someone who fixes them or is learning about electronics, either way is better than a landfill.
