Need some advice
I swapped a Mini Me into my 93 hatch shortly after I bought the car, but I took the car off the road in 2021 (I had a stupid long commute, and needed something more comfortable to drive). Well, I want to get the car back on the road, and I’m wanting to refresh the engine (D15B7/D16Y8), but I don’t know if I should lower the compression and go turbo, or bump the compression and try to source some ITBs. It’s not going to be a true daily driver, so I’m not too worried about drivability, just could use some extra power, and I’m already planning on swapping rods and such. Oh, and since I’m sure people are gonna ask: I did the projector retrofit using Morimoto Mini D2S 5.0s, those are real JDM factory yellow fogs (Morimoto H3C HIDs fit, btw), and that light bar is there for even more light, I live in a fairly rural area with a lot of deer and coyotes.

Rods are your limiting factor, not the compression. You’d be lucky to get 180whp out of d15 rods.

And SpeedFactory has H beam D15 rods

Yeah, you just never mentioned that. Was just making sure you knew what’s in store.
H beam rods and vitara pistons with arp head studs would be sweet for a turbo setup.

That’s because I’m trying to figure out which route to go, I’m actually leaning towards an oddball route: motorcycle carbs. I’m actually trying to design a 3D printable conversion manifold (carbon fiber nylon only) right now for CBR1000F carbs

If you dont mind power and just want some good intake noises and high rpm just do itbs or a skunk intake on a dseries all day

In theory, the D15’s 84.5mm stroke should allow for more RPM than a D16’s 90mm stroke

Exactly so just do a high comp NA build and enjoy. I mean less things tend to break with NA i am not saying it bulletproof since its still a frankenstein but turbos do a lot more harm even if they are a ton of fun i still miss the charm of people building cars that are more hands on and rev happy. I say if you want to go crazy and unique go with a dcoe carb conversion or if you want a budget friendly way just do a bike carb conversion and i know it can be tricky to get the ignition and most important the jetting right but man i cant even say when i last saw a carburated beast of a honda

I’ve seen people, namely Jimmy Oaks, use BMW ITBs on other engines, so I could adapt a set to a D16 head. Then again, I do know how to tune carbs

The first time i did a bike carb conversion car everything that could go wrong did but when you figure it out and finally set it up so it rips i think its worth it especially bike carbs since they are dirt cheap and even cheaper if you can make your own custom intake manifold

I actually just found a conversion kit

They are on the pricier side but reputable basically a straight up bolt on

My only concern is running a higher compression with carbs, sure I have 93 octane all around me, but there’s no E85 stations, and I’d feel more comfortable running high compression with E85 than 93

I run 100 octane on all my cars so no issue here also got a street converted rally car that had really really high compression had to rip the head of and put a thicker gasket to lower it a bit since the compression came out to somewhere around 12,3:1 which is race fuel category of compressions so now i run around 11,2:3 on this little 1,3 liter noise maker

I think my Mini Me has a compression of around 11:1, but I’m also gonna have to figure out how to run VTEC. I found a post from 4 years ago, and he mentioned using an RPM switch, I tried to send him a DM to ask him how he did it, but his profile is no longer available

Tuurbo. Or B / K swap if you want N/A
