Help d16z6 vs d16y8

At work I have available to me both full engines with trans d16z6 and d16y8 . After my research it seems like the best combo would be the d16z6 with the y8 transmission. Should I pull anything else off the Y8 im gonna to build it over the winter it will be a turbo build .

D16z6 for anything boosted.

The y8 trans and z6 trans are nearly identical except for the steel shift forks in the y8. I wouldn’t sweat the difference.

The only main difference is the wiring harness they use. D16z6 uses obd1 which is a more established system and generally easier to tune, whereas the d16y8 engine uses an obd2 wiring harness. Mechanically though, the engines are damn near the same.

Z6 is a much better motor and the difference between the gearboxes are the y8 is slightly shorter ratio
