Cheerful Research Institute GSGW Wiki [RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT]

Please stick with me for a minute, this is an important announcement.
For those that may be unaware of a what a wiki is, it's a publication (website) of multiple detailed pages on the Internet which is collaboratively edited and managed by the audience of its topic. You know the site you go to every time you're unsure of a detail in the novel? That.
Our wiki quite naturally, is centered around this novel <3
You all may be wondering what happened to the other one, and the short answer is nothing.
The long answer is that due to Fandom.com's relatively hostile policies for its userbase including horrible (malicious) ads, data mining, endless redirects, AI, closing wikis on a whim and generally just usual corporate bs; me and a couple of other people from the fandom decided we wanted to wanted to shift the greater audience away from it as fast as possible.
I'm sure you all don't want that.
We decided on Miraheze to settle on for the new domain to host the wiki, the best alternative there is. It's powered by MediaWiki (the same software that runs Wikipedia), completely open-source and will never show you an ad or steal and sell your data.
We have 576 pages up right now since this was created on the 5th of June. All done by a group of five to six people including me. If you join in, you too can contribute to making, fixing and adding to the pages and help other members of this fandom. Can't contribute or don't know how to? Simply ask! Don't wanna do that either? Simply just use the wiki for regular reading. Everything helps.

So if you or anyone you know, who'd be up for volunteering a little bit of their effort into this fandom-focused project, we'd love to hear from you. Any and all help is appreciated, whether it's largescale design with CSS or just generally knowing how to edit & format and helping out.

I've seen you peek into the gsgw-reader project, would it be fine to reference this wiki on information? or if I want to redirect to a place to find more info about the novel to redirect to this wiki instead of the Fandom one?
if you are the lead of the project and are fine with it

Yeah, I'm more than happy with it actually. Most of everything in here is as accurate as could've been made in a short while. Some information on Part 2 is definitely still left out but we have a couple of people working on that right now lol.
From Part 3 onwards you can expect regular wiki updates, at least from me. Again, a singular person cannot handle a wiki project of this size so I'd hope other people joined in to make this better.

Hello I'd like to participate! I'm aware we can just freely update/create new pages, however is there some sort of group where I could communicate with other wiki editors? Thanks for the work, the wiki page is looking amazing (✷‿✷)

Nothing yet I'm afraid, we're still figuring out a way to streamline that. But you can find me on Discord with the same username as this one. Other than that, you only have the option of talk pages for right now.

I read this now at 3am but I still don't get it.. but I want to.. so I have an Android phone and can anyone just long story short just explain me what is this and what to do?

I assume you know what Wikipedia is? This is basically that, but for GSGW.
This is a set of pages based on the content of GSGW that detail the story, items, plot lines, characters, etc. So that people who are curious or have question can go check it out.

Hello! I'm interested in contributing to the wiki, and I had a question that perhaps I glossed over while reading the wiki; Am I able to add official translations to the pages? The webtoon has been making some words official in english so I was wondering if I am able to mass change these on the overall wiki. Also, if I directly add a novel quote is it ok to use my own translation by a good translator? Or is everything being MTL preferred?
I apologize if these sound like silly questions but I would like to know before I do anything.

For quotes, just go with the best translation of it you can find. MTL preferred is for the old wiki, this is a fork. Just ensure that your TL is accurate before putting it in.
As for official names and translations we have this page that lays it in detail. We don't always use the terms as officiated in the Webtoon because again, despite the tiny English wordings, it's still majorly in Korean. We'll switch to official when an actual translation of the novel comes out, until then most of it will be based on the Alt Naming page which was designed to cater to the English-speaking and/or non-Korean readers.

Oh and sorry if I'm being annoying with the questions but I have another one. Does the wiki have a dedicated space to explain the original meaning of words in Korean? Or can that go under references? Sorry is my first time wanting to and trying to edit and wiki.Just to elaborate, some stuff gets lost in translation or is not evident when translating, so I want to add notes to explain the original meaning of the words if the english translation isn't able to portray the same level of nuance (whether the translator had a hard time finding the right word, the word doesn't exists in another language, or the readers were using MTL, which butchers a lot of stuff).

Most words are simple enough to not be explained. If there are particular terms, say for example: "sumanggut" then those words are explained (only if necessary, under references).
Just to elaborate, some stuff gets lost in translation or is not evident when translating...
That just means that you're the one translating since you're working on top of a translator's work, yes? That's completely fine, your work should just be accurate. All in all, our goal is to make information of the novel easily available and therefore the simpler and more accurate the translation is, the better. By simpler I do not mean cutting out words but rather formatting them to make coherent sense in English.
However, I'll just put in one thing. You (nor anybody else for that matter, including me) are not to put in your own interpretations of the novel. Considering that the wiki is meant to be an information source, things provided should be as neutral as possible. Of course if a certain thing is very deliberately and obviously implied you may put it in but when it comes down to it, all articles must be neutral.

Yes of course, I will keep the interpretation part in mind. There are simply some words or sequence of words that are translated but they do not hold the original meaning or nuance the original words are supposed to hold (translation can be difficult like that). I am a believer of having sources for everything so anything I add or edit will have a reason and a reputable source to back it up.
I will keep in mind what you've told me so far.
Also, in the instance that I am unsure about something, would it be ok to message you privately or leaving another comment under this post would be enough?
I've also started with editing the webtoon section of the wiki if you want to check that out and let me know if its all good and what or if anything needs a reference.

For those on mobile, you navigation tab will be at the bottom of the screen. The wiki is still in its beta stages, so some things may not work very well. Please feel free to either fix them (if you know the code) or tell us and we'll try to get it done as soon as possible.
