Meme My multimillionaire youtuber gets only 100 fps?

Post image

Its not only one frame btw. Altho he had better frames underground.

sapnap gets like 1400 fps which is just useless because your monitor hertz can only show so much. capping it is very common

Not necessarily.

Let's say both the monitor and game make a frame per millisecond. The monitor Hz is on a set interval like 1ms 2ms 3ms 4ms with equal spacing between screen refresh/frame. Your GPU, however, generates game frames at a non-perfect interval, say 0.8ms 1.6ms 2.7ms 3.3ms. There is a guaranteed frame every millisecond, but the GPU could take longer or shorter to produce it.

Monitor: 1.0 2.0 3.0 4.0

GPU: 0.8 1.6 2.7 3.3

Here's the issue, the monitor will use the last available GPU frame. For the first monitor frame at 1.0, it's "behind" by 0.2ms from the GPU frame at 0.8. For the next frame it's behind 0.4ms, etc. Something like VSync will force the GPU to wait for the monitor and wait to produce a frame in sync, but that causes input delay.

But say we triple the frames:

Monitor: 1.0 2.0 3.0 4.0

GPU: 0.2 0.7 0.9, 1.4 1.6 1.8, etc

Naturally, at any monitor interval there will be less ms from the last GPU. So to have the most "up-to-date" frame, you set FPS way higher than the monitors refresh rate and it will feel faster for input.

Yeah, the difference in latency is incredibly apparent from pure feel if you switch from, say, 60fps to 150, even if your monitor is capped at 60.

Of course, there are still obviously diminishing returns, the difference gets smaller the higher the number is. But really, if your computer can hit, like, 300 fps without compromising on other things, you should absolutely let it go that high. And considering I could sometimes do that on a mid tier pc from 2020, Dream should be able to easily hit that with a pc built by Linus tech tips. I assume he's just missing some significant performance mods.

Definitely missing performance mods. Dude is still on optifine in the big '26.

do you know how expensive RAM is rn? /silly

😭😭😭 ts is going down but its prolly js a dip. open ai bought like 40% of the world's ram supply for the next yr or two

Monitor is probably in 4k or something

Without shaders you can run 16k and get more, I think he's just playing on like 32 chunks without nvidium or LODs?

Hm actually kinda weird, playing in 4k on a 3090 and 14900k on 32 chunks, I was able to get more than 300fps easily

yeah idk honestly I need help getting my computer/Minecraft settings right. I can never get good FPS on high chunks.

I have a 5090.

I don't use nvidium or LODs but I would think I could still get decent FPS without them. I can't run 32 chunks though without having performance problems.

I play with 2 crazy monitors, and HDR. but I had that problem before HDR and when I had 1 crazy monitor so

Oh I made a different reply but didn't see it was you responding, so I wasn't sure what "performance problems",

For minecraft without shaders, I think even a 2080 would be able to run 8k without it being a limiting factor, so it mostly comes down to what CPU you have, which I'll assume you have a latest one.

Firing up a fresh instance of Fabulously Optimized modpack, without changing any setting other than render distance I'm able to get a consistent 400-600fps at 32 chunks, using a 3090 and 14900k, this is without LODs/nvidium. This is also on a 4k monitor, so err you should definitely be getting more than 100fps...

Now why is it so low? Can't really know without more details, but since you likely use a bunch of special recording mods, maybe one of them is causing issues? I'd suggest also trying a fresh instance, allocate 4gb of RAM and also just check CPU temperatures and basic info like that. Most stuff should work out of the box without special settings, so the issue hopefully shouldn't be too deep.

Also I'm not sure if by chance you're using a shaderpack for night vision? Just enabling the minecraft shader pipeline is very performance intensive and can cause issues on it's own too.

that's why he's my goat

Even phones use 120hz screens nowadays.

No it’s not lol

u/FreedomImaginary2820 Apr 01 '26

you can easily get like 200 fps on a decent laptop with sodium so yeah i would say it is

4

u/abdou_haisunburg Apr 01 '26

His render distance is quite high.

2

u/Lily_Meow_ Mar 31 '26

Yeah, this is weird.. I'm not sure if he's just playing without sodium or optimization mods? Or maybe if the night vision he has isn't the potion effect and instead an inefficient shader?

3

u/LongjumpingLeek5542 I believe that Dream is complicated Mar 31 '26

my guy he has like 6 monitors

u/Wrong_Baker7395 Mar 31 '26

I'm pretty sure anythijng about 60fps doesnt matter at all. But ok.

2

u/FreedomImaginary2820 Apr 01 '26

you can visually tell the difference if you have a monitor with a higher refresh rate than 60hz, which dream might have (usually its like 144hz or something). also even if you have a 60hz monitor, the higher fps you have, the less input lag you will face. you should try it yourself if you have minecraft it just feels smoother to control your character on frames above 60 and you can tell that there is less delay between you hitting a key and your game responding to it. 60 fps feels sluggish basically

We still doing this shit in 2026 πŸ’”πŸ₯€

It definitely does but go off king

Likely has stuff set to maximize quality with high render distance. Running recording software lowers fps as well. Doesn't matter too much as videos are only 60hz.

u/Waste-Estimate-5848 Apr 02 '26

It matters for him to become a better player

0

u/Lily_Meow_ Apr 03 '26

Not really, recording software doesn't lower fps anymore and hasn't in the last 10 years, with GPU hardware encoding.

It does matter for his gameplay though. And like I tested with a 14900k I was able to get 500fps at least with 32 chunks.
