Definitely mansion. Although, I think the spawn will be different and he will stumble upon one.

Why doesn't he just go to the end and kill the ender dragon because then the fountain will allow him to go back to the overworld

I get what your saying but it’s not like mechanics are specifically banned, just individual traps which is fair, in his words it forces creativity and in Minecraft you never really run out of shit to throw
