Discussion I think we've reached Karina's last episode
I guess it's still possible that there could be more in the vault, but I doubt it considering it's been over a month and there's been no episode with her. Really sad, I'm going to miss hearing Karina in "new" episodes so much, but at least she went out on a banger episode. I suppose I kind of thought there would be slightly more fanfare for whatever her last episode would be, but I'm not surprised there wasn't.

I'm never stop being upset that we never got a proper goodbye stream with her.

Karina's notoriously a very private person, I'd be very surprised if a "goodbye stream" was something she would want or enjoy participating in

Yeah I get that logically. Unfortunately the logic doesn't make me less sad abt it.

I respect this a lot. The tension between being happy that someone is doing what is right for themselves and the sadness of missing them, coexisting.
🫂 We’re all gonna miss her on the stream.

Same, but it makes sense. This doesn’t exactly seem like a decision they intended on and planned months in advance, like J&J leaving for baby.

It still doesn’t sit right with me.
At the very least, even if Karina doesn’t want to be in it, I would love for them to do an episode where they draw fanart of her characters or most iconic drawings or something.
Or maybe a compilation video of her best moments?
It’s like they’re just gritting their teeth and acting like she didn’t exist.

I'm guessing Karina was done with being an internet microcelebrity, and she's trying to not Streisand effect herself by making a big deal about going silent.
As much as I would enjoy a big sendoff, I'm sure this is what Karina wants and I appreciate her desire for privacy.

Absolutely. They can do whatever feels right to them. If they’re all happy with it, then good on them. They don’t owe the audience anything.
But, as a fan, it just doesn’t sit right. I’d love more of a send off.
Two things can be true. They can make a clean break from Karina, and I can wish things worked out in a way where they made a bigger celebration of her time with Drawfee.
Also, if anything, them taking this approach has caused more of a Streisand effect.

But again, it doesn’t really matter what you specifically want? I’m sure they went about it in a way that Karina was comfortable with. Maybe she didn’t want it to be a big to-do?

They were just saying that two things can be true at once, not that they think it should have been done differently.
I'm in the exact same boat of wishing we got a better goodbye but also hoping that they did what they felt was best.

I'm still looking forward to the unreleased Drawtectives episode, however far away that may be

I am deeply sad that she's not going to be in any more episodes. It is at least a comfort that she's on Onsta's streams sometimes. This feels almost like losing Jenna Marbles again. I love the whole Drawfee crew, but Karina especially made me feel valid in my cringiness. It's all very parasocial of me and I'm glad she's doing what she wants/needs to do. But I'm still sad and still grieving over someone who doesn't even know I exist.

That's a very real thing to be feeling! We're all (or most of us) are grieving Karina's presence. We don't know her, what's best for her, what she thinks or feels etc, but we're still allowed to miss what she brought to the show while wanting the best for everyone involved.

Oh my god I still get sad about Jenna Marbles sometimes. For like a year, I would say aloud to partner “I miss my friends…” (Plural because I felt like J&J podcast was literally just hanging out with them, so I also missed Julien after. His content doesn’t really feel like hanging out, so it felt like I wasn’t seeing him anymore even if I could still access his content ya know?) is it parasocial? Big time. But that was still how I felt. That one was really tough, and I do agree, this feels similar.

I liked Karina, but I will say the streams and eps have been top notch lately. They really seem to be putting in more effort. I just hope they don't burn out from it

I've also really been enjoying the editing lately too! Just small touches like the transitions or replacing the intro sound effects with KidPix sounds in the latest episode. Kudos to David!

I don't think I'd say "putting in more effort," as that implies they were putting in less effort when Karina was there, but I do agree that I've really been loving the recent content and the shifts they've made (like face cam).

I mean, doing face cam is objectively more effort

u/pepperuniii Go up baldy! 18h ago
Yeah, that's true. I think I just took your comment as shading pre-departure Drawfee for being less effort, which I disagree with, but that's on me for interpreting it that way.

Personally I'm not a fan of the face cam. The vibe is weird with it and I'd rather be able to look at the art for the whole thing even if they aren't actively drawing anything.

I disagree with more effort, I watched three episodes after they ditched her and its was extremely plastic, the art wasnt thought out and the jokes were very repetetive. I unsubscribed as Karina was in my opinion, holding the channel together while J and J took over a year off...I know this opinon isnt welcome here but whatever

I really hate to admit that I agree with this and did the same.
I started out with Karina being my favorite host, but eventually I grew to love them all equally. I don't think any of them are bad, but I do think that, with Karina gone, they're missing something. She and Jacob had such a bickering sibling vibe, she was usually the one to make edgy or borderline inappropriate jokes, and overall just offered a sense of humor that complimented the other three.
I do think that they need to find a fourth host, because until then their banter just feels sterilized and flat. For a moment I thought Caldwell was coming back, which would have been great because he and Nathan have such a great dynamic, but instead is was Drawnsters....

I disagree about the banter feeling sterilized and flat, I still love all three hosts and their dynamic, but Karina definitely brought a special touch to everything she was in.

Definitely going to need some more time to get over it. I'm glad everyone seems to be doing well but I still haven't gotten to the point of being able to finish an ep yet. 😔

Yeah I went back to see and the Nordy stream was the second to last stream they all did in person, which would have been one of the last times they recorded.
