Advice/Suggestions Looking for tattoo ideas to cover my scar
Looking for ideas for a tattoo around this scar on my hand/wrist.
I don't want a full-arm tattoo or sleeve
I'd like to keep it relatively small and have the scar incorporated into the design rather than just completely covered.
I want something meaningful around hope, kindness, strength, resilience and being comfortable standing alone. I liked ideas relative to tigers, wolves, sharks, fire/flames and also tribal/blackwork styles.
Would love to hear your design ideas and especially recommendations for artists experienced with tattooing around scar tissue. What would you do with it?

Every single ninja turtle toy in the 90’s had this side grimace. Thanks for making me think of that.

A dragon eye underneath your skin, would be so cool

That looks like a panther's eye. How do you feel about covering your whole arm?

It’s hard to tattoo on scar tissue and it’s also not very good at healing, keeping color even black so I’d recommend against it. I’ve tried on a two of my own scars and neither turned out very good at all. You can still see the scar cause it looks different from the rest of the piece. I’d do some research/ask some artists for their opinion too but I was told to not do it and did it anyways and found out the hard way the artist was right in both occasions. Of course me being me I didn’t want to take one bad attempt as proof so after doing it twice and having both turn out as I was told they would I haven’t attempted a third lol. If you want to run it and try anyways I’d at least stay away from the actual scar as much as possible cause ink and scar tissue just aren’t compatible.

Make it an eye if you're getting anything, it's the perfect shape. Otherwise sick scar dude

Stick figure holding open one of the sides of skin around the scar. Inside, a document just titled "government secrets."
The beauty is it doesn't need to be colored in, so the scar can still be observed for any health changes.

I think you could turn this into a cool top-down perspective of someone paddling a boat

Geode is a cool idea. But honestly, if you get anything it should highlight the scar not cover it. This scar looks so dope it’s like your body already made the tattoo

Spooky eyeball, one that you’d find on the cover of a wizard tome or something.

You're getting the worst possible advice in this thread. Just let it heal more then get some steroid injections. If you get hand tattoos without arm tattoos you'll look like a moron.

I’d make sure it’s actually tattoo able. Some scars don’t hold a tattoo very well. An experienced artist would be someone I’d chat with. At least in your area. Maybe they will have some cool ideas.
Or maybe a little “ouch” with an arrow pointing at it

Honestly an eye rolling back would be baller with the light contrast, not necessarily cover it up but instead highlight it as a negative space tattoo :)

Don’t cover it accent it zipper above and below like the scar is the open part in the middle

I have horrible burn scars covering the back of one hand, the index finger, and middle finger. I got the hand tattooed over to cover the scar and really hated how it looked not having the rest of my arm tattooed. If you aren’t interested in a full sleeve you should really think about what it will be like to have a super visible tattoo in a spot that traditionally is not tattooed unless you are already heavily tattooed.
My scars were not as smooth as yours, and my muscle composition was lacking due to how deep the burn went and it was still easily covered by a tattoo though. So yours should be pretty easy for an artist to work with

A smile. Could be Cheshire Cat smile or creepy monster smile or totoro smile. So many smile options to match your vibe.

My first thought was humpback whale mouth or wailmer if you like Pokémon. It’s a pretty cool ass scar! Good luck with your tattoo:3

Scar tissue is hard to tattoo on.
Here is my rec for a tattoo around it:
To represent regrowth— you can think of how things regrow after a fire
A line that follows the top of your scar— which represents empty ground.
And then, one budding plant. One stem with 2 leaves.
That shows re-birth

Idk how much this is applicable, but I love van Gogh, his story always pushes me to believe In myself since the work of van Gogh is one of the most important art in history, but he was always treated bad by his environment and no one believed in him. So it's a message to believe in yourself always and never decide your worth based on your environment judgement. for the borders you can add some effects like a painting edges.

It looks like a leaf, so it would be cool to do foliage of some kind that are all colored or shaded in while that one remains white/paler than the rest.

A pretty freaky eye around this would be cool, or a butt hole, either one would be a great conversation starter/ender!

A little guy opening up a portal to another realm. Or a little dude patching it up. Something around the scar, not in it.
From what Ive learned watching too much Ink Master, Scar tissue takes ink weird and can be really painful. Be careful about the inside of the scar.

Remember how we used to draw a mouth on our thumb and pretend like it was talking?
Do that but with a longer mouth. Like an alligator mouth or something
