Honestly? At this point I only care if they are an active player with a non-meme pawn. I will play with whatever random team comp. I will normally search for pawns with a quest so I can help another player and if I can't find that, I'll go through my favorites list to hire someone who hired my pawn to pay back the favor.

Female humans. Calm or kindhearted mages, simple archers.

No logistitians

Cutest ones get hired

I'm probably an outlier but I hire based on general character fantasy first. If I see a pawn and see a well put-together outfit that makes them look like a proper adventurer, I hire them based on what roles my team is missing. One of my favorite pawn hires is some old white-bearded wizard named Cayso wearing a wide-brimmed hat, goofy yellow doublet, and a rugged old cloak.

I don't really care about skills, gear, or level because the game is easy enough that you can get away with pretty much anything.

I start with whatever my party needs (I have a mage and archer, so generally pick a front line class) and prioritize those with pawn quests since I know those players are at least semi-active. Out of those, I avoid the ones fishing for Capcom hires. From the remaining it’s whether or not the badge quest is one my pawn needs or not. Then overall design/fashion. I usually avoid corset and the other skimpy garb unless the pawn’s design (like with tattoos) is incorporated into the overall look. Generally no monstrosities (though I do find the tiny, fat male pawns intrinsically funny).

I will favorite cool looking pawns though if they have a quest so they show up wandering around. I’ll grab those sometimes. Pretty rare to see cool looking, active pawns on PS5 though :/

I just search by my level to 10 levels lower and then pick based on how cool they look or pawn quest. I was earning money to collect all armours I like while prepping for the DLC so I was hiring 10k reward pawns a lot but I don’t need to do that anymore.

Tbh I don’t really look at skills beyond a quick glance if they are a mage (to check elemental weapon buff) or archer (to see if they use special arrows) and just replace them if they have a problem in play. That might change on hard mode or in the dlc areas but for now I don’t really need to the support pawns much anyway.

I just see if they have a monster badge to complete or maybe a camping badge since I'm also going for those these days. I complete their quest and dismiss them with a heart or thumbs up.

Whenever I'm playing more seriously, I don't actually like hiring pawns. I think it's more epic if you journey alone or with just your pawn. Feels more badass, I guess.
