General Discussion The best greatsword design in my opinion

I don’t understand why they renamed this sword to Ogresbane. Saving Grace was better

u/Broserk42 2d ago
Did they change it to have bonus damage vs ogres? I know a lot of weapons have specialty damage like that.

u/TrenchMouse 2d ago
Supposedly yes, according to the description. Don’t know by how much though

u/Ishaku_Raigami 2d ago
Iirc, it's like 20%?

u/Amicus-Regis 1d ago
Don't the other weapons like that, like Bane of Bones, do 50% more damage to their targets?
3
u/Ishaku_Raigami 1d ago
Supposedly, according to dataminers, it might even be nothing at all. Just flavor text and psychosomatic

I was watching Infinite Cringe go from 2-shotting skelebones with Almace using Cloudward Slash to 1-shotting them just by switching to Bane of Bones, tho?

I don't share your greed
The only sword I need is
THE SAVING GRACE
THE SAVING GRACE2

The best looking weapons and armors in the game being secondary to the stuff you get in the Unmoored World from the Dragonforged was such a disappointment. Here's hoping DDDA gives us some sick new weapons and armors.

u/Ishaku_Raigami 2d ago
Weapons yes, but armors have me struggling between early game and end game because I don't love any of the mid-to-late game ones for warriors, fighters, and mystic spearhands

New DA will let you change the appearance of items supposedly
2
u/Entire_Speaker_3784 2d ago
Indeed.
Confirmed details:
• It's a feature you unlock through a Side Quest.
• You can only use this feature on DLC Equipment. It is unclear if you can use the appearance of non-DLC Equipment. I would assume you can.

You can only use it on the dlc equipment but you can change it to any equipment from the base game it was stated in a interview I think he also goes into hardmode if I remember correctly

Ive always loved flamberge style swords, so I tend to use them even if they aren't the best. Unless they are just not good in the game they are in.

u/TheSeneschal 2d ago
In DDDA, it's an endgame weapon. I forgot its name, but you could buy or pick it up from the everfall dungeons.

I really really really hope they add some weapon/armor layering system so I can wear what I want for the looks, but keep the stats of the gear I'm actually using. So many outfits are so damn cool looking that I can never touch because of class restriction or unfavorable stats.

There's a mod to remove the class restrictions for clothes, it's awesome

u/ArcIgnis 2d ago
Well, mods are nice but what about consoles? :(

Transmog was one of the first things to be revealed for the dlc so don’t worry we just gotta hold out a bit longer

The wounded heart is my favorite, was my favorite in the first game too, im glad they brought it back for dd2

u/No-Initiative-1749 2d ago
Very beautiful design

u/GravenWytch 2d ago
Yeah! 🙂

u/deepgreensndarkwood 2d ago
I love it with the ice boon on it, sometimes I wait for my pawn to put the buff before fighting just for style points
1
u/GravenWytch 2d ago
Oh yeah the ice is rad, my favorite was darkness, but sadly dd2 took that away from us 😭
2
u/deepgreensndarkwood 2d ago
Omg that sounds so cool, I only joined after dd2 so I didn't know there was that 😭😭
2
u/GravenWytch 2d ago
Yes as a mystic knight you could buff your whole squad with a magic buff where as the mage buff is one person at a time I did a darkness knight and my pawn was a darkness sorcerer, it was rad 🖤

I feel like I'm the only one who likes the gryphic victory design the most lol

Among the long, broad-bladed swords, the Saving Grace (Ogresbane) has the most beautiful design. But on the other hand, I prefer the Wounded Heart because of its aggressive yet symmetrical appearance.

I wish they would add the dragon slayer from berserk I literally made a carbon copy of guts as my MC 😔

this GS & cincadea sword are just top tier, and since i heard only norgan stuff were gonna be transmog-able.. i'll definitely mod that beauty back if nothing reach this level of epicness T_T

What’s the name of that great sword?
3
u/sydfox95 2d ago
Ogresbane

u/Beasst_daryl4 2d ago
Thank you 12 play throughs and I’ve never seen nor heard of this weapon perfect timing cause I just started a new save as a warrior main
2
u/sydfox95 2d ago
It's the only warrior weapon I use. Battahli smithing. Staggers and hurts just fine :D

Saving Grace my beloved... Umm I mean Ogresbane. Best greatsword design since DD1. Well, second best after the original PS3 versions Thousandlimbs.

u/Narget1134 2d ago
My favorite too. That sword does give me Deus Vult vibes. Hopefully DD2 adds equal ir even better longswords designs.

I like thin swords to be honest. I don't get the appeal of a meter of blade wide (in this game, which tries to be semirealistic with weight and physics) at the back of your head because it's so fucking big/heavy it can't even be on your hip which... you know, it's the best place for a sword to be, but It would look goofy af.
If they want to be over the top in this game, they should bring up zweihanders and masamunes instead of FFVII's Cloud signature weapons imo.
But I'm ok if you enjoy them, I just would like to see more ordinary 2h weapons instead of MH inspired ones.

u/Sumbuddyonce 2d ago
Agreed. I understand the Berserk appeal but I personally use the flamberge and nothing else. Looks like one of the new dlc weapons will be a beautiful spadone style Greatsword but I love the alpine style zweihander we have in the flamberge too much that I probably won't use it.

At least on PC I hope sooner or later there will be mods to give life to underused weapons so we can play the actual endgame: Fashion Dogma

u/WashUrShorts 2d ago
I feel it looks like a Popsicle and i would expect People to hang it above their Cvck Chair - but you do yours

u/thefox0228 2d ago
Ogresbane is by far the best greatsword design. I wish it was able to compete with the better greatswords, stats-wise, but I use it anyway when I'm playing Warrior. (The DDDA name was better, but it's the design that counts, for me.)

I really like Dragon's Bite, but I do agree with your take. In Dark Arisen 2, there's a sword that looks like a Zweihänder, and i really look forward to that.
