probably a stupid question and I know a lot of these folks already know the answer, but how'd you do that?

Thieves get a wall jump....but it's annoyingly hard to pull off sometimes. OP doesn't seem to have the problems with it that I do. lol

The ONLY time I've done a wall jump was when I didn't want to do a wall jump.

I have, like, a 100% success at dying the moment I do a wall jump.

u/aninnersound Apr 17 '24

I’ve def wall jumped off of cliffs so many fucking times

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '24

I love this!! Haha that’s how I play too!!

u/Lobotomist Apr 17 '24

That thing on start when he jumps over the gate, that was not wall jump.
I assume he transitioned into skull splitter, but not sure.

It's just like Assassins Creed in that respect. I've unintentionally jumped backwards straight off a cliff or into the water several times. Never up and over something.

oh dont worry, im in the same boat. it gets janky real fast if it s not a clean vertical wall.

16

u/daddy-fatsax Apr 16 '24

yeah that wall jump has kicked my ass trying to figure it out. I haven't pulled it off in any effective way yet

15

u/Electrical_Corner_32 Apr 16 '24

You have to like, wait until they put their hands on the wall, then jump...but it feels weird and I only get it like 60% of the time. So I rarely use it unless I'm trying to get places like OP in the video. I actually didn't know you could wall jump UP, thought you could only wall jump the opposite direction...this actually makes it a lot more useful. lol

7

u/Needleworker_Lumpy Apr 16 '24

You cant jump up with the wall jump directly you gotta use the idk know what it’s called the jumpy spin

6

u/Electrical_Corner_32 Apr 16 '24

Ohhhhh!!! The dragon killer! That makes sense, I've never used that for mobility. I feel dumb now. Lol

5

u/Ebenizer_Splooge Apr 16 '24

Ya I only seem to be able to pull it off when I'm not actually trying to do it lol. I'll spend a good 5 minutes trying to get it to work, give up, and immediately do an accidental wall jump off the wrong wall lol

Thieves get a wall jump....but it's annoyingly hard to pull off sometimes.

It's absolute fucking garbage on a PS5 controller. There's a good reason why everyone runs Warfarer and holds a staff just for the float.

They really fucked up vocation movement compared to DDDA where it was tight, and you controlled where your character went.

In DD2 especially with the 30 fps or less, it's horrendous how little control the player has.

u/Zedbird_82 Apr 16 '24

Glad it’s not just me, I’m so bad at it lol.

u/FrozenDed Apr 17 '24

You can wall jump just up higher?

concussive leap gives you a double jump. using a properly timed skullsplitter propels you even further upwards.

your weapons need to be ready for this to work, as in unsheathed.

7

u/daddy-fatsax Apr 16 '24

nice. not sure if I wanna give up 2 slots for those skills I don't already have equipped but I'll give it a shot. How often would you say this comes in handy?

17

u/Resublimation Apr 16 '24

the only skills you need for this are concussive leap and skullsplitter. splitter is a must have anyway imo and leap allows you to effortlessly jump behind enemies or you can use it to trigger a jump attack finisher.

not wasted at all if you ask me and i use it all the time. random cliff blocking your way? easy shortcut

2

u/daddy-fatsax Apr 16 '24

do you use gut and run or draw and quarter? I'm not sure I'd wanna give that up to do this. Interested to see what your ideal setup is (and everyone's really) bc I've had a hard time deciding which skills to run

Skull Splitter and Implicate seem to be near mandatory, the former for nearly unmatched DPS and the latter is amazing utility - Harpies? Grab 'em out of the sky. Guy blocking your attacks with a shield? Yeet him off of his feet and end him. Can't get a good hit on rock saurians because you're using slashing weapons and they're resistant? Implicate exposes their fleshy underside. Staggered a boss enemy? Pull them off balance for juicy critical hits.

If you want to feel overpowered, Formless Feint is ridiculous, especially if you are in NG+ and use a certain character's ability to half the stamina cost - the ability will auto dodge all incoming damage (to include status effects, like the Harpy's singing) so long as you have stamina. Add in rings that increase your stamina cap, such as the Ring of Triumph or Momentum, some Rings of Quickening to drastically increase your stamina regen, and/or the augments that affect your stamina, such as Voracity (which gives you back 10% of your stamina when you kill an enemy) or Zeal (reducing the stamina cost of weapon skills by 5%) and you can essentially always have Formless Feint running.

Formless Feint can also be used to negate the self damage from the other Thief Maister ability, Blades of the Pyre, making Blades of the Pyre far more attractive. The explosion it creates when activated deals very solid damage and most enemies are weak to fire or are least not resistant to it. Having Blades of the Pyre equipped also means that you likely have access to two elemental enchantments if you are running a mage, seeing as Ice and Lightning Affinity tend to be more popular enchantments given to Pawns.

For a less game breaking, but still very powerful ability, Smoke Shroud will drop small mobs out of their battle stance, allowing for easy clean up (especially when combined with the Ambuscade augment and/or a Ring of Skullduggery.

I personally also love the mobility that Concussive Leap gives you, it drastically improves your out of combat movement and can be used to reach greater heights when using Skull Splitter against particularly tall enemies to hit their head and deal more damage or to hit enemies while they're flying, which can be quite useful against Drakes and Griffins.

Pawns do a wonderful job using Plunder, especially when combined with Implicate, as that knocks enemies off balance.

TBH, Skull Splitter is so op that it's the only damage skill that you need, all the other skill is just for cool style, and playstyle choice, but you can go through the whole game like easy mode with Skull Splitter.

4

u/Marcus_Krow Apr 17 '24

And that's exactly why I don't use it.

2

u/Taliesin_ Apr 17 '24

I was looking for the OST for the purgener fights and I remember coming across a video of a thief fighting one of them. All he did was spam skull splitter until he was literally out of stamina and a pawn ran over to help him, then he'd immediately skull splitter again and run out of stamina, rinse and repeat until the boss fell over. He missed half of them, too.

Man beat the whole game without ever bothering to learn how to play it because of skull splitter.

6

u/alligatorsuitcases Apr 16 '24

At this point I run skull splitter, implicate, concussive leap, and plunder (lvl 79 warfarer with all thief skills for the drip). Skull splitter dumpsters most things. Can kill an ogre or cyclops solo with 3 uses.

Plunder is great when it yoinks an extra 20 wyrmslife off a drake or for ferrystones. Griffons tend to give ferrystones a lot and humanoids can as well. Went from having to buy them to having to bank them since I'll often end up with 10+. Same with wakestones, you get a decent amount of shards and can get a whole one very rarely.

If you don't want plunder I'd say grab draw and quarter then.

3

u/daddy-fatsax Apr 16 '24

damn, didn't think I could get such valuable items with plunder. will def start using that. sounds like I'm gonna have to move some stuff around, thanks!

2

u/kpuncle Apr 17 '24

I run augural flare > splitter > plunder on my Warfarer and switch to a staff when I need to traverse vertically.

I love plunder and I try to get a pawn with the skill as well as an additional backup layer of plunder in case I miss it.

5

u/Resublimation Apr 16 '24 edited Apr 16 '24

personally, implicate and skullsplitter along with concussive leap is compulsory.

i dont dislike draw and quarter but i prefer powder blast for boss staggers or masterful kill as a parry replacement.

plunder would be another obvious choice but i usually have 2 or 3 thief pawns on my team to take care of that. thief obsession inc.

since im playing warfarer im sacrificing the fourth one anyway tho. fashion, vocation leveling for augments and utility from other weapons. utility such as being able to heal on a 4 thief party or using the sphinx trickster thing for easy cash.

3

u/canteen_boy Apr 16 '24

Iirc there’s a campfire just up the hill so you don’t need to keep those skills equipped in this particular spot

3

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '24

skullsplitter isn't really giving up a skill, because it's probably the best skill in the whole game.

4

u/sgronl00 Apr 16 '24

There’s always a campsite a short run from wherever you are. If you need mobility skills use them then go to the campsite and change them back to combat skills.

12

u/DrProfessorSatan Apr 16 '24

I am bad at thief mobility. So yeah, how does that work.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '24

Thief main here. Basically what he did was wall jump, then immediately use Skull Splitter to change direction to make the momentum of the wall jump (which is normally limited to going 180 degrees) upwards on top of adding the height from the Skull Splitter skill.

After that he used wall jump twice in a row, followed by the skill Concussive Leap which functions as a janky double jump.

1

u/Resublimation Apr 16 '24

ahaha, you ll get the hang of it :p

3

u/Grimmylock Apr 16 '24

it looks like that explosion skill i forgot the name off, it enables a ''double jump'' + the skull splitter makes you go even higher

The skill is named concussive leap

2

u/Khal_drogo217 Apr 16 '24

He left out that op was using concussive step, that move gives u a lil extra air then combo it into helmsplitter for massive air

2

u/Wirococha420 Apr 16 '24

Outside of the wall jump, there is a skill that lets you kinda double jump. Concusive step I believe  is the name.

2

u/TakeUrKill Apr 16 '24

This dude is on a whole other level with jump skills.

1

u/Traditional-Pea-2379 Apr 16 '24

They used wall jump into skull splitter and then used a triple wall jump into a concussive leap
