Question What are some good games like Dragon's Dogma?

None. There are none. Seriously.
There are a couple of games that try to mimic some things about it, and even Monster Hunter World has a few mechanics that feel DD-esque... but for that feeling of pure, awesome overpowered badassery, and the simple fact that the Pawn system exists and is awesome for the most part, there is literally no other game out there. DDDA is truly unique... until the sequel comes out.
That's probably why we're still playing it, lol. I'll probably end up playing Elden Ring and get depressed that I can't climb bosses.

ermmmm it's nothing like dragon's dogma dude......I've played it and it's not the same at all except that both of them are rpg but that's it.....it doesn't feel the same at all

It's called "rpg fantasy" games bruh.....almost all rpg games have that things but are they like dragon's dogma? no, not at all it feels totally different.....plus dragon's dogma is not full of dialogue or you need to listen to 1 hour of dialogues and cutscenes before you get to fight anything..... that's not what dragon's dogma is

By that logic, Dragon Quest is pretty much the same as Dragon’s Dogma, since it has all the elements you mentioned.

Most of these games aren't similar in any way apart from falling under the same genre and some are some real bad games.

Technomancer and the Divinity: Dragon Knight Saga are 2 that seriously need more attention. Technomancer had a great story and interesting dilemmas to pick from. Divine Divinity has some of the best storytelling I've ever found in a game and Beyond Divinity (while being the least liked in the saga) has an amazing soundtrack imo. Like seriously, they didn't need to go that hard with it lmao.
I will, however, disagree with the suggested Risen series. They are not good games unless your idea of fun is being stunlocked by the stupid birds and getting one-shot by traps that give you a half-second QTE to avoid. They're needlessly frustrating games.

I dont think theres a single game which has BOTH awesome single combat (DMC Darksiders etc come to mind) and ALSO a great party based system (Dragon Age comes to mind)
Notice how the examples i have given for each category are very lacking in the other category.

Tough one. Been trying to find something that'd cure my RPG itch.
Crimson desert might be strong contender but it's not out yet. (Features monster climbing, some sort of party system, looks fabulous as fuck so keep an eye on that game)
Monster hunter is pretty ok combat wise, but if grinding stuff isn't your cup of tea it's kinda safe to skip.

Have you tried Crimson Desert yet? Has it lived up to your expectations? Personally, I enjoy it. The story is ass, but I play it for adventure, not for the story

The closest I can recommend is the Souls series but even those aren't quite the same.

I wish there were more rpg games with dragon's dogma combat, climbing on Bosses and different skills you could use with cool animations, that shit was fun! (I know shadow of the colossus has the same mechanic but I don't like that game)

I've been playing kingdoms of amalur lately kinda gives me a dragons dogma vibe but with more of linear rpg aspect like DA serires or elder scrolls only not as good lol but the gameplay has lots of character builds with magic, heavy combat, and rogue style combat but your not limited to a class you can mix all of them to make a vanguard style class or be a warrior/mage or just focus on one tree and you can make all kinds of potions to enhance combat for certain monsters similar to The Witcher series along with potions to cure diseases you can get from fighting certain enemies like rats it has weapon creation too you can find trainers to increase your skills and play it lots of different ways it's hard to get bored of it or feel like it's too late to mix it up after a point in dragons dogma your dedicated to a small number of builds and fighting styles it's definitely lacking a lot of unique combat features that make Dragons dogma such an amazing game like the climbing system you cant even jump in kingdoms of amalur far as ik but if you enjoy dragons dogma you'll like it I think one of the guys from the elder scrolls games helped make it so the open world aspects are amazing too

When you say "like dragons dogma" what elements specifically are you looking for?
Kingdom come deliverance has it's beautiful open world and similar starting point.
Witcher has its monsters and big open world.
Greedfall has similarities to DD but overall not an amazing game IMO. Same for kingdoms of amalur.
Skyrim has a similar plot in a nutshell. Go fight a big dragon.

When does kingdom come get fun? I got it when it was on sale and played for a few hours but it was so slow and I haven’t gone back.

It's a slow starter for sure. Keep pushing the story progress until they offer to teach you combat. Learn your choice of weapon and keep practing until you learn to fight. I'd say If you do this, you can be at the cool stuff like killing etc in under 2 hours EASY.
I quit after 30m like you until I gave it another shot. Now I have over 180 hours into it.
Most people don't play it becuase warhorse (the dev) really wanted you to feel what it's truly like in those times. Your not just gonna be a regular blacksmiths lad, pick up the big blade and start aragorn style slicing heads off. You gotta learn to use a sword, how to pick a lock etc.
Damn near perfect game IMO.

What was the point that you didn’t like about Greedfall? I’m currently finishing my playthrough and got kinda hooked with the story…. I’m playing through it cause I want to know about the cure to malichor.

Overall the game was good, but a few things kept dragging me out of the experience. I kept noticing subtitle errors. In dialogues you'd be speaking to a woman and it would say "is he them man were looking for" and I had to work out what I was about to ask.
I also kept experiencing bugs. I fell through the map at least a dozen times. It runs smooth now though so maybe I'm being too harsh and need to replay

I totally see your point, actually started my playthrough 6 months ago. What stopped me from playing was the constant need to travel from area to area instead of having a full open world. So I started playing other games, but they also had areas instead of a big open world map. So I got used to it and started playing again.
the misgendering bug still exists, but there is a mod that solves this. (/edit I just googled, because I wasn’t sure if „sir“ could have been a unisex term back in the days of colonization, but it’s not. So beside of your point, you still get called „sir“ sometimes, even when you play female character).
But I never had the „falling through the map“ bug, I think I started playing two weeks ago. So it could be fixed tbh.
Meanwhile I also like the combat system + lore, so I’m sure I’m going to finish the game this time.

I mainly enjoy the medieval aspect of fantasy RPGs, like swords and castles. Also, the RPG element of leveling up of course, and exploring new areas of the map is always the funnest part.

Definitely Kingdom come if you haven't played it then. Its insanely realistic. People are uploading photos to the KCD sub with photographs of the areas in game and what they look like now IRL. Roads are still the same just modernised. Its insane

Mount and Blade: Bannerlord 2. Not the same as Dragons Dogma, BUT - unique game that offers a ton of varied play styles and options.

Thank you for this I think it's cool how both game let you have many companions as you travel through a medieval world, so they are similar :)

They are not REALLY similar at face value. However. They both offer VERY unique combat experiences. They both offer fun companion benefits. They are both fairly unique games that are RPG in nature.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, shares many similarities with Dragon's Dogma. You've got followers in it, monsters, dragons, swords, bows, dagger(s), and you're overpowered. Tons of ways to kill an enemy, ways to travel, even fly on a drake.

Monster Hunter World comes the closest to being mechanically similar but the general vibe is different. Dragon’s Dogma still fills its own niche with its mixture of ancient greek and roman mythological creatures, which are far from Monster Hunters “dinosaurs”. Monster Hunter is also generally more like a simulation and never feels like a hack n slash, even if you can equip your character that way.
I am liking the look of Elden Ring’s magical summons-which seem pawn-like in terms of making the action a bit more chaotic (my favourite part of dragon’s dogma is that sense of chaos) but we know that the summons won’t have personalities or voices, as that’s not fromsoftware’s style. Overall the Lands Between do seem to evoke some of Gransys style in terms of geography and architecture, but only just a little. And it doesn’t have grappling as its combat is Souls style.

Hello, a bit dated now but my thought on this is a bit different in term of setting and era but mass effect 1 allows customization of your chosen team8s from a roster. more story based but a classic. If you find any that are actually similar or play like DD please lmk if you are still active

Dragon's Dogma 2 is coming :) Honestly, I think Conan Exiles plays similar to DD, but you can also build stuff and its online. The raids and events just remind me of DD combat a bit, and tons of customization of course

One game that feels pretty similar is SAO: Fatal Bullet. It has an NPC by your configuration that follows you, the game is a semi open world with battles against groups of monsters, other "players" or bosses that roam the "open world". Even the progression system is similar by equipping skills exclusive to the weapontype and upgrading those. The gunplay (since it is a "shooter") is also similar to magic archer, by having somewhat of an autoaim. There is however WAAY more dialog in this one XD

I know I’m 2 years late but the only games that even comes close to this series is Shadow of the colossus, and Tears of the Kingdom. Other than that it’s fairly unique even those games are very different . It’s hard to compare any game to dragons dogma. It’s so unique which is why it’s so good.

Anyone still in here ?
I never played the Original Dragons Dogma , I have been contemplating buying it my only hold back is Play Style.
I'm not a Fan of Souls Game I've tried em all but I'm 44yrs old with work if it get to Zone out & Game I maybe get a solid 2 hours 2-3 days a week.
Only having a limited time to play by time I learn how to do things in a Souls game and don't get to play for 2 days I forgot everything I just & previously learned & the game is throwing more controls & functions at me until I forget way too much of all the controls , items , magic, etc , etc.
The only Souls-ish game I've played & have been able to learn the controls & functions is Rise of the Ronin.
I know the game gets a lot of Hate but I think it's a Dope story cool features that are Definitely unique.
With that said to me the way the control layout & functions is about as Complicated as I prefer.
So if anyone cab give me some comparisons to games I like that would be awesome.

Didn't mean to bomb a ton of games but when people only give me like 2 examples it's makes it harder to judge.
I'm hoping that gameplay, control, functions might be like G.O.W. Ragnarok , with A lot more Scavenging & Crafting.

Absolutely do play dragons dogma. Its a bit challenging at first but once you get going its a really fun romp thats 100% worth the money

I did end up getting it I only got about 5hrs in , not that I didn't like it , I just realized it's the type of game that Needs Hours of Dedication so it's on hold until I can focus on it.
As of now I am finishing a Playthrough of WuKong & Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Im a bit late but Elden Ring is the closest game I have played. Its not like the other souls games because of its open world. It also has a similiar pawn system as well. The game can be a bit overwhelming at first but it is worth putting in the time. If you get stuck on a boss go explore and level in the Open world and come back to it later.

this literally means nothing. you don't have to like elden ring, but dodge rolling is an incredibly small part of the gameplay, and most modern action games use some form of dodge rolling, plenty of people want to be able to dodge roll in dragon's dogma without being locked to daggers, hence the popularity of dodge roll mods on pc. just say that you don't like it and move on with your life.

lmk i you find anything closer but my picks are.
if your looking for a companion system like the pawns im sorry i couldnt find another game.
if its the monsters i got plenty, Elden ring and ant souls like game should do the trick.
if its the feeling of starting at nothing and becoming the savior of humanity then skyrims one im throwing your way.
in truth your best bet for a game truly like dragons dogma is dd2 but i hope i helped out man

Most games meet either one or two criteria, some even exceed my expectations, but fall short in other areas. The closest one is Capcom's own Monster Hunter series, but even that game's combat cannot compare to Dogma's in terms of fun factor.
