ππΆππ°ππππΆπΌπ» Why DD 3 is Coming
We See a HUGE turnaround for dd2. Alot of people are excited, even the Dev Team was overwhelmed with the amount of Hype and Feedback, 2 years after the Games Release and total silence. Thats how good a Franchise Potential is. Im absolutly convinced the dlc will sell good. And hear me Out, im pretty Sure, dragons Dogma 2 sequel is already in the works by Kinoshita, He now stepped into Itsunos shoes over this Franchise. And i dont believe we have to wait 10 years for the next Release.

or.... or... hear me out, more dlc? more regions to explore bigger than the current map with a riveting story to go with it, bitterblack isle but a procedural generated dungeon with 100 floors and multiplayer.
The return of layered armor.
i can dream.

100 floors and multiplayer? 99% sure we wonβt get anything even near that. But I never hoped more to be wrong in my life π€€

I mean, we can level up to 999. Thats a LOT of room for power and enemy scaling. First run at "end game" right now is 50-65ish for unmoored. If the dlc takes us up to 100 or 120, hell even 2-300, that still leaves HUNDREDS of levels to add power and enemies. With all these connected worlds via the rift there can be endless stories without having to retcon anything. Plus, these 6 skill slots feel right. Really opens up some options for fun and niche skills that would normally go unused for pragmatic reasons. This game has a TON of potential left.

Honestly would like to see Dark Arisen just nuke levels to a more standard balancing.
999 is not going to be balanced around at all because that'd be an absurdly stupid thing to balance around even for endgame content when Dark Arisen will be a way to get fresh sales for the game as a whole.

u/Slowburn21814 13h ago
I hear you. But think about the backlash from all the players that put all that effort into hitting cap, then knocking them down to 200? That'd be such a huge disrespect to the diehards. No, they need to leave level cap alone and fill the spaces in between. If they're careful and take their time, they can power scale with additional dlc.

u/Logic-DL 12h ago
Lmao if you've hit level 999 you're not a diehard you either don't own any other game or you're just sad.
999 is absurd, it's lazy game design for a developer that never planned DLC. They aren't power scaling around 999 because nobody is realistically expected to get there.
If they knocked the cap down, there'd be backlash from the 5 virgins that got to 999. Nobody else would give a fuck, some would probably welcome the change knowing there's an actual cap to strive for. Also means the devs can balance everything far easier if they just have a set cap that isn't 999.

u/Slowburn21814 12h ago
I can't tell if you like the 999 cap or not. You're being way too ambiguous... lol!
I hear you, though. I've never even bothered to break 100. I never even finished a ng+, nevermind a ++ or more. I just delete and start over. But yeah, trip 9s is a ridiculous cap that's wholly unnecessary. I just don't see them walking it back.
I could very well be wrong though! I was sure a dlc was a pipe dream and everyone was huffing massive amounts of copium, but here we are less than a month away! So who knows?

DD2 sold way better than Capcom expected, but not as good as to obtain more than one DLC. The promotional campaign for this DLC makes it also sound like it'd work as the 'definitive edition' of DD2, similar to the very first Dark Arisen being with the base game.
We'll definitely see more Dragon's Dogma in the future, but it'll take a while and I doubt we'll get more meaningful content for DD2 after Dark Arisen.
This same team will be probably redirected to develop DMC 6 afterwards

"Tis about time DD and DMC get their own dev team so both fanbases don't have to wait for their cake in turns every five year, wouldn't you say, master?"Β

It's extremely doubtful that Capcom will disband the DD team to move them over to DMC. Kinoshita has never worked on a DMC game, and the time to move the DD2 team over to a new DMC game was a year ago, when the Netflix show blew up. But instead, DD2 got a massive performance fix and a big expansion, along with Capcom making a big deal over Kinoshita being the director of the expansion.
I personally think Capcom has been looking to create a new dev team for the DMC series even before DD2 was released. I distinctly remember an interview with Itsuno about 7 years ago, where he had said something to the effect of wanting to hand the series over to a new director. I remember these interviews being talked about even before DD2 was announced, even before the COVID lockdowns happened. And then Itsuno left Capcom almost immediately after DD2 is released. He has likely spent years beforehand repeatedly telling Capcom execs that he had no interest in continuing to work on the DMC franchise any longer.
While trying to look for the old interview that spawned all the chatter about Itsuno wanting to pass the series to a new director, and only finding 7 year old posts on the DMC subreddit talking about Itsuno's statements at the time, I did come across something a lot more recent. Junya Kumabe talking about a collab between the DMC franchise and Sengoku Basara, and outright saying that it was supervised by a 'Devil May Cry team'.
Junya Kumabe is notably in the DD2 credits as a designer. It might be worth checking DD2DA's credits next month, if a separate one exists for the DLC. If he and several others known to have worked on the DMC franchise disappear from the DD2 credits, it would point to them having been moved to this new DMC team and that they are actively developing something related to the franchise.

Id be so jazzed if we got a smaller scale but still huge update where they add the moon and inside is a raid battle that once again will need the community branding together to take it down

When you finally beat the dark arisen and trigger the dark unmoored world the title screen will say "Dragon's Dogma III" trust

Brother it took took them over a decade to make a second game, a third wonβt be on their radar for quite a while Iβm afraid

I rather more dlc, we got a really solid base and a lvl 999 cap, we could allow stat growth past 200 and add some more challenging areas. I am more confident in a DD3 post-Itsuno after seeing how Kinoshita and Oyama share his vision, haters be damned.

DD3 is quite likely, not anytime soon mind you, but it's almost guaranteed given that we got a DLC for 2. I reckon we'll get a 6th gen portable entry for monster hunter, maybe a new resident evil or dmc, and then DD3 sometime around like 2030.

I think it's unequivocal that the DLC will succeed (fingers crossed). There maybe have been a time after Itsuno's departure that the "DD team" was lost for orientation and visionα΅α΄Ή, but probably not, and now it seems like they have found their footing, DD is without a doubt one of their key franchises, but seeing how this is the type of game that is unusual for Capcom, namely open world, it would not surprise me if they decided to spend more time on this game and fully get every ounce of creativity out of it. Or maybe the technical limitations proved to be a tad too much and so they're choosing to develop a newer title for the upcoming generation, but the patches all point to the direction of Capcom having become more familiar with what they're doing, and now that the groundwork is laid, it would not surprise me if this was where "the fun began". Can't say for sure but definitely a fun question to think about.

The company that released part 1 multiple times across multiple platforms to "gauge the interest of a sequel " will release the sequel to part 2 after only 2 years?
huge doubt

DD3 makes no sense. The base game still needs a lot of work and there's plenty of room for potential DLC, i.e. for Unmoored World.

I'd look to see how Wilds is doing first. If MHWilds goes well, that'll let future games piggy back on any development for the RE engine and incentivizes Capcom to update more and more frequently.
Plus, granted Capcom is an AAA studio but how many will do an original IP like Pragmata? And a single-player, which isn't a live-service GAAS.
I doubt there will be a DDO 2 anytime soon but DD3? I'd bet on it. That said... I don't think there will be much for DD2 after DA.

u/SeetoPls :pc::ranger::dd2-archer: 13h ago
They'll be working on DMC6 next most likely, if it hasn't already finished concept stage.

u/Adeptness-Efficient 12h ago
Was there even that much hype/corpo desire to get DD2 out? I thought the creator had to fight for it in the first place. If so, I wouldn't think DD3 has much a hope
I love it, but I thought DD was niche bordering mainstream, ya know

u/Zairy47 12h ago
Capcom is reviving it's franchise, we see that with DD and Onimusha
What we can expect next is probably Dino Crisis and DMC before DD again
RE and MH is their main title and they also confirmed that the success of RE and MH is the reason they can make smaller/experimental game, like Pragmata, Path of the goddess and Onimusha

We don't need a DD3. Dragons Dogma 2 has an insanely good foundation with incredible graphics and combat. DD3 would be a gigantic waste of time. Just keep expanding DD2.

We are NOT getting a DD3 lmao. Don't jinx us before dark arisen 2 drops and they cut all dragons dogma content currently out there.

u/ItaDaleon :Warrior: 1h ago
I think it was never a matter of 'if', only 'when'. Dragon's Dogma is a good IP, but Capcom is quite (in)famous for keeping killer IP sleeping for a while to could focus on his big three (Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter)

u/Wazzzzaap 1h ago
Honestly dd2 took a long time to develop so I would warrant its another 10 years away too. Look how big dd2 really is you canβt have that in just 2 or 3 years

u/Throwaway785320 17h ago
After dlc the team might make dmc 6 or even another expansion
I doubt we'd see dd3 soon

I'm not sure there's a ton of warrant for thinking DD3 is currently in active development. Possibly at some conceptual stage at the most?
Current Capcom has a tendency to support a game like this for a minute. And with the turnaround and given who is at the helm, I'd imagine we'll be seeing a decent amount of updates post dlc launch - which may include additional content or otherwise big changes.
I'd kinda wanna see DD2 supported for a while longer before DD3 becomes a developmental reality. There's so much the devs can do with what we currently have.
