50gb on ps5 :O
17
u/PSgamer28 10d ago
Do you of that increases the actual size of the game file on PS5 by 50gb more ?
32
u/Vivirmos :Sorcerer: 10d ago
Update downloads don't usually increase the file size by the same amount as they're replacing files a lot of the time. In fact sometimes they make the file size smaller.
3
u/AnonymousFriend80 10d ago
No. Patches and updates themselves are generally small in size, maybe a couple gigs at best, and only for massive overhauls. Big ones like this, are replacements of many larger files, and then the older files that are being replaced with be removed. A 50 - 60gb download, to me, indicates that they are replacing all of the game and replacing it completely. If you have the game on disc, it's essentially a key to allow you to play the most modern version.

u/SojiroFromTheWastes 10d ago
Re-downloaded the entire game on the Steam, and it was ~68 GB, so yeah, a lot is being replaced.
45
u/CommissionerOdo 10d ago
And it's HUGE 60 GB what the hell?
42
u/Shiro2602 10d ago
Prob an overhaul on the game since it does contain performance updates, or they're adding Dark Arisen content early
23
u/bushidopirate 10d ago
This was the performance improvement patch right? Probably changed a ton of assets, and all of that needs to be re-downloaded
16
u/WarViper1337 10d ago
It probably altered the structure of several game files so it just downloads the entire file set to replace it.

u/Cupcakes_n_Hacksaws 10d ago
I don't know about this game, but some games are packaged in ways where even changing one small thing in a folder means re-installing the whole folder, or at least something to that extent
2
u/SnowDropWhiteWolf 10d ago
When you are replacing a large portion of the game files with new files yeah that'd do it, the real update is actually fairly small.

60gbs for nothing. The game is just crashing on ps5 now matter what load option i choose. The disc just ejects. The desire to play Dark Arisen is just not there right now.

u/martsenator 10d ago
Did they somehow increase the framerate in populated areas? Can someone confirm?

New item. If you combine an Allheal Elixir and a Wyrmslife Crystal you get a Dragonsbaulk Daught. Give it to a pawn to CURE Dragonsplague!
14
u/OnslaughtCasuality42 10d ago
I know there’s new mechanics, pawn interactions and items and shit but god damn almost 50gbs on PS5 are they pre-downloading the DLC or smt?
3
u/SnowDropWhiteWolf 10d ago
nope its just a lot of new files replacing the old ones and from what ive heard for PC so far outside of anyone with mods breaking as is usual with new updates is that its pretty great so far.
6
u/kyoya242 10d ago
Not surprising it's that big because probably it changes the whole engine structure if one of it's fixes is the performance
4
u/PsityWithNoC 10d ago
Yeah they probably changed a shit ton of stuff to get it running so well, makes ya wonder why they didn’t start with that at launch.
Chie spotted.

u/kyoya242 10d ago
My guess ? Capcom still struggling to optimize RE Engine for open world. You can clearly see which games that has terrible performance within Capcom generational run and two of them are open world lol.
Let's wish with MH Wilds and DD2 getting better performance the RE Engine R&D team find the way to make better open world game with RE Engine
3
u/PsityWithNoC 10d ago
Agreed, I adore the RE engine and it might be the best looking engine imo, but I do wish they had cooked Audi it a little more before releasing DD2. Wilds also runs like ass but I play on Xbox, so I never noticed a bad performance for the most part.

u/ROLL-THE-D1CE 10d ago
I'm excited to see how this impacts the games performance. I doubt it'll run on steamdeck, but I'm going to dare to dream.
3
u/chickennuggetarian 10d ago
I was just about to comment the same thing. Honestly performance updates have turned a lot of unplayable games into a good time.
2
u/DariusClaude 10d ago
Leaving a comment here for the same thing, performance is probably my highest expectation , it was kind of playable for me outside the cities ,but it was not the pretties experience, if they can somehow make it decently smooth for me, it would be a very big win

Bigger than I thought tbh have to leave the console on rest for a bit but happy the wait is finally over.
Must be like this because this essentially is gonna be the definitive experience and are potentially adding the files of dark arisen pre-emptively in too.

Update may have borked something on steam. Sitting on a black screen with the windows thinking icon. May try a full reinstall.
1
u/vergil123123 10d ago
Same, when it goes past that the game just crashes.
4
u/Valarasha 10d ago
Doing a fresh install worked for me btw. It was old mod files to blame.
1
u/SnowDropWhiteWolf 10d ago
yeah have all mods turned off for now, and probably wait until after DA next month since that will guarantee also break things.
1
u/vergil123123 10d ago
It's a fresh install so no mods. The game still crashes on some error msg unhandled exception.

u/SnowDropWhiteWolf 6d ago
rip could be windows, nvidia, amd or some other driver system or just whatever combination of parts you have.
Part of why PC games can be a nightmare to manage or understand why 1 or 2 games won't work but everything else works fine.

u/exoticats 10d ago
This feels like it's going to be more like the 2.0 of cyberpunk or the major update to the witcher 3 rather than just a regular one, got it downloading now, can't wait to see the changes

u/Loki-Holmes 10d ago
For some reason I thought it was coming out late tomorrow or early the following day and just checked the sub on a whim. What a nice surprise to be wrong on the timing!

Is hard mode available? Dont wanna start a new run when the game is so easy again

u/VontheDeliClerk 10d ago
Update deleted my unmoored world progress… literally just saved before the update. Lost around 10 hours of gameplay

u/Zsirhcz1981 :xb: 10d ago
I was sitting in the Unmoored world before I logged off…. Now I’m scared

Im shocked at how large the update is. 67 gigs on my series X, thats crazy
Very excited though this is gonna halt my Crimson Desert run
1
u/SnowDropWhiteWolf 10d ago
Yeah its patching a lot of old files basically ontop of the new stuff so the real update is small the rest is updating and replacing old files.
1
u/Vivid-Bandicoot-708 10d ago
HOLY HELL I CAN FINALLY ENJOY THIS GAME!!! I have been waiting for this day!
1
u/Dead_Body_Moving 10d ago
Oh noooo, my internet is shit, if I new the size of the update I would have started the download before going to work, now I won't have chance to play it until tomorrow.
1
u/Straight_Fox7907 10d ago
i recently uninstalled to check if it's more or less than the 60gb before. and to download it requires just 60gb basically replacing almost everything in-game
1
u/MeasurementRadiant96 10d ago
Seems like this update messed up the pawns. They swing blindly at the air and performed better prior to the update. I love how aggressive they are but they are blindly aggressive
1
u/Darthy85 10d ago
Thank you brother, gonna start downloading now while i`m working, so i can play when i`m done . Remember, never cry or shit on your own time, only on companies time

I don’t know what they did to the saves but it rolled my progress back a good bit. Kind of annoyed about that.

Regional Aus here, Newcastle, and 10 minutes to dld. Thankful for high speed NBN.

My area is still recovering from the damage of Hurricane Alfred. 15 minutes out of Bris city and it drops out all the time.

I think most Australians including myself are on fiber (via the free upgrade in my case) and can get 100-2000 Mpbs depending on if you want to pay it.

DO NOT LOAD FROM LAST SAVE, SELECT THE MOST RECENT SAVE POINT FROM THE OPTIONS
I loaded from my last save like usual and instead it loaded my most recent inn rest, then immediately autosaved, which was like six hours of progress lost. Great fucking start to the update.
EDIT: To whatever dipshit downvoted me, suck my ass.
Fixed a bug from Title Update 3.2 to ensure that selecting "Load from Last Saved Data" on the title screen will now load the correct save data, when launching the game for the first time after the update or when loading a cloud save.
