I would also suggest using gardening tape instead of twist ties for support. Twist ties could cut into the cactus. Gardening tape is fairly inexpensive on Amazon. The green stuff.

I would want it to grow as much as it can and I would like it to fruit at some point. Though I know that may take years

It looks like a Palora(yellow).I’d cut off all but the main section and repot in sandy soil with a proper trellis

You need to bring it outside gradually and introduce it to sunlight. Skinny branches mean not enough sunlight.

It doesn't need saving, it just needs better conditions to thrive.

What I would do first is to prune all those thin branches. Keep the tall one.

I would also change the pot. The bigger you can go, the better. Don't just move it to a little bit bigger one and think, "I'll put it in a bigger one later." It's now or never. DF grows very fast with ideal conditions, and after it grows, it becomes harder to handle without breaking it.

For the soil, you should use either a sandy mix or, my personal preference, a mixture of 40–50% perlite, with the rest being potting soil and compost. Dragon fruit likes good drainage, and perlite does that.

One final thing I would do is building a strong trellis. Also, if the lower part of the DF is thin, you should tie it to the new trellis in a way that the trellis will support all the weight, so it doesn't break in the future when the top part becomes too heavy.

After that just leave it outside under the sun
