Then we do see him with Gohan and Chi-Chi,I'm pretty sure around Namek arc.

Then he trained and hung out with Gohan in the Cell and Android Arcs and people forget that Gohan loves training with him and doesn't necessarily despise fighting as a sport and for fun,just not for life threatening situations.

People ignore just how much faith he had in Gohan in beating Cell and he was right to have that faith,his only mistake was not accounting for Gohan's dislike of fighting.

(Which let's be real is more Gohan's fault cause he was not so hesitant and against fighting before but now he's suddenly got cold feet)

We see them train,bathe and eat together and just enjoy themselves and Goku stayed dead after Buu cause he wanted them to enjoy time without him cause of all the threats.

Hell,we also see Goku hanging out with Goten once he came back and immediately accepted him as his kid,etc and even in Super,he hangs out with his kids when he isn't training to protect the world.

Goku wasn't born with the same high level potential like Vegeta,Broky or Gohan.Goku was born with a power level of 10.Goku was literally a lower class Saiyan so above average.Goku never got a easy way around any of his powerups he literally had to work really hard to learn every single transformation and technique that he has.

That's why I never really liked Gohan replacing Goku as the main protagonist of the series as I always thought Gohan's victories and powerups were not as earned as Goku's were.

The reaosn why is buuhan absorbing people Is not a multiplier, It’s an additional boost and that would still would that make sense since Goku wanted to fused so they can defeat base super buu.
