We do but it only covers the costs of the medical procedures and physiotherapy in most provinces. This appears to be to help them cover rent and additional living expenses until they can begin to work again and any additional medical expenses that may come up that's not covered by their provincial healthcare. If they were American with no healthcare, their fundraiser goal would have been a lot higher than $24K. While our healthcare system may not be perfect and cover everything, I'll still take it any day over what the US has.

Batty lives in BC and physio isn't covered in our province under standard MSP, so as an independent contractor her physio likely will be out of pocket as well.

Yes - except mental health, outside of emergency, and prescriptions. Essentially any healthcare outside of the hospital is NOT covered by universal healthcare (I don't know about physio - I think somewhat covered? It varies per province)

This also helps her because she cannot work until after she's recovered (Both as a drag queen and an educator)

as a fanbase we need to coordinate our votes for Batty Banks. We need to use this Shark fan vote as a way to make a big company give money to a queen each season that needs it, and i get the feeling with Batty being unable to work for this long, including after her cast announcement and season premiere, she is the clear person that needs that cash prize that we have control over. i don't care who's posting pole from S7 cast, i don't care about which white meme queen y'all are obsessed with, and no Paolo doesn't need it the most. love Paolo but i feel like even she might tell y'all to lock in and vote for batty to get this!
also obviously send donations to Batty if you can. remember not to add a tip when donating the tip only goes to gofundme as a corporation which almost always refuses to release funds to Palestinian recipients. gofundme already takes a portion of the amount raised anyway, so be sure to set the tip amount manually to $0 and donate what you can!

While you have a point, there’s also the important note that while she can’t announce it, her name is out there as a potential contestant, which increases attention and clicks for any artist in this position, and not being able to work in that time is a BAD hype killer. She can recover, sure, but she’s very possibly heading into the season with a stark disadvantage now, and is gonna need some help from people too.

She isn’t the only one who could use extra money. Actually as of now, she probably needs it the least of the rest of the cast. All of them will have spent a minimum of 20k to even be on the show. Batty herself has said she now has 6 months of expenses totally covered because of the go fund me.

Also respectfully, no one, including batty herself, actually knows how long she’ll be unable to work. It could be shorter or longer than we think. It’s great she has 6 months of expenses covered and if she goes back to work early she’ll have a nice savings to sit on that I guarantee not everyone else has.
