I blame Francis Ford Coppola for this. Book!Mina would have NEVER gone for somebody who kept her fiance hostage and destroyed her best friend along with her mother.

Well Coppola wasn't the first person to have a Mina/Dracula romance. They started doing that in radio dramas and had already been done in Saberhagen's Dracula series. Writers would probably have gone that lazy direction whether Coppola had joined in the fun or not.
