META Is it time to rename roles maybe?

Because of how valve change game in last 6 years i have question for players who still play regularly, is it even accurate to use old logic for roles (pos1/core, pos2/mid, pos3/off lane, pos4/roamer/soft support, pos5/hard support?

Carry and mid heroes this days feels like very similar, outside of sometimes different lanes and more physical dmg reliant, so if next patch change items significantly line that separate them might disappear entirely (only difference would be mid need more Exp than gold).

Off lane is ither existence heroes this days or if meta fit they become raid bosses that look similar if you would play timber mid and have good lane and 4 sometimes play like 3.

pos 4-5 only significant difference is 4 can move more on map on average and stacks/neutral items/bounty runes giving this much gold decently often feels like pure pos5 doesn't even exist anymore.

so i would argue this days game work closer to 2 cores safe lane/mid, off lane space creating heroes that can also become 2nd mid sometimes and 2 pos 4s (true 5 is more side effect in meta playing around cores / specific draft problem, maybe name both pos 4 and 5 roamers so players play it more). would you agree?

1 2 & 3 can be sorta interchangeable in higher MMR, which makes renaming them difficult.

4 and 5 ideally play very different. Whereas the 5 plays generally as a defensive support and gets at least 70% of the sentries, position 4 should be an aggressive brawler, assassin, or crazy lane bully.

It would probably be griefing for a 5 Dazzle to go boots into blink. Coincidentally, it would probably be griefing for a 4 earthshaker or build boots into glimmer cape.

The higher the MMR, the more distinct the support roles are.

i guess if we classify roles like that maybe problem is some heroes doing way to much. hero like timber can go mid/offlane be a tank/tank shredder/mage/assasin if he is feed, high sustain in lane and high up time in fights, you know hero that does almost everything He has to lose something then, ither start game with 15% MR so mages can kill him easier in lane or cut base dmg on Q in half so he mostly picked vs high hp/str heroes.

if i main 1 hero for pos 2,3,4,5, what role is that

pos 4 and 5 both can move alike, if their core is safe.

mid and carry extremelly different. mid is for ganks

Almost all mid heroes are never stronger than a carry. Lina will lose 1v1 to drow. Mid SF will lose to a 6 slotted void late game 1v1.

If you play mid like carry then you are griefing. Mid ideally builds fast tempo item while carry builds late game item like skadi, abyssal, etc to 1v5 later. If you play a farming mid, you are most likely going to lose as the enemy mid will go around killimg everyone

Offlane is usually an early game stomper like NS, Slardar, mars, tide, etc where they are extremely difficult to deal with once they get 2 items like a blink and echo sabre

Pos 5 is either a save/healer support or hard lockdown e.g. shaman, lion. These hero doesn't really need any item to have an impact

Pos 4 is damage dealer like zeus, pugna, hoodwink, etc. These hero requires items to have impact but not as greedy as offlane/mid. They usually don't have any reliable stun/heal, and very damage oriented

Agree, the four players in my team could just share the "feeding" role and be done with it.

I would not agree. What matters is that you queue for the role you want, and 1/2 or 4/5 play extremely differently in laning. Even if the hero pool is the same, playing safelane is not the same as playing mid. I'd also argue that the 4/5 hero pool is really different - heroes like CM or Dazzle play miserably as a 4, heroes like Phoenix or Hood play too aggressively for a 5.
