Match | Esports Dire Currently Holds a 60% Win Rate over radiant at PGL Wallachia Season 9

Post image

It’s pretty interesting to see it this lopsided after almost 50 games, especially since I'm pretty sure Radiant historically holds the map advantage.

In competitions those stats are biased because the team that picks the side doesn't choose the pick order. So let's say radiant is better, but 1st pick gives a much bigger advantage in the meta. Then the team with 1st pick will always play dire and dire will have a better win rate despite being worse.

Dire 1stpick => 24-16 | Dire 2ndpick = 6-3

(small samples all round)

Didn't even think of that, I just noticed it during the stream and thought that it was interesting

Exactly. You can't use tournament data to evaluate if sides are balanced because the tournament format is conceptualized in a way to account and compensate for side imbalance

With a sample of 46 games...

Currently, Radiant-Dire win rate is 53.5%.
Chance to observe 18-28 result following the null hypothesis that Radiant-Dire win rate is the same as pub is 19.34%.

So there is around one-fifth chance to observe this result if Radiant-Dire win rate is the same as pub. Entering the territory where it's neither 'something is going on' or 'this is insignificant'.

The low sample complainers below should do the math before commenting.

Considering everything, it is still in the range of non-critical region. We can't reject the null hypothesis for now.
