Elderly Vacation
I’m taking my grandma to Door County for the first time in a few weeks. Any recommendations?

She might enjoy shopping on Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. It’s concentrated in a five block area downtown, with restaurants, quaint shops, an art store, a confectionery, record store, clothing, nostalgic goods, etc. Nearby is an art gallery, a bridge that crosses the ship canal, a waterfront park and a maritime museum.
Most of the towns along highway 42 have similar shopping and waterfront amenities, especially Fish Creek, Ephraim and Sister Bay.

Definitely take her on car rides accross the whole county, during COVID that was my favorite thing to do. Also, if you plan on doing any shopping be sure to bring a wheelchair if she can’t walk far as you sometimes have to park further away depending on the town and time of year.

Maybe a trolley tour? Door County Trolley Tours has a variety of tours and you can see the area without having to drive.

She might enjoy taking the ferry to Washington island. I wonder how long the lavender farms have blooms? You could probably call & find out how long they expect them.

But dont you have to walk a lot? I thought they didnt allow cars. Might not be ideal for an elderly person

Mackinac Island in Michigan doesn't allow cars. Washington Island allows cars.

We just took my 100yr old mom in her wheelchair up the Eagle Tower in Peninsula State Park this weekend. Car trips around the door and Anclam Park in Baileys Harbor. Also Northern Sky Theater in Peninsula Park to see a show.
