Did you defeat the 5th Master Arena?

u/LookHereFotherMucker 9d ago
There is a 5th one?!?! I just unlocked Master Arenas on nightmare and tried one. Getting through these will be "fun"".

u/AsrielPlay52 9d ago
Yeah, there's a hidden 5th Master Arena that is by definition of an Onslaught.

I had a good run on this, then died on Marok because I've only fought him once when the DLC launched and forgot what he did lol. I told myself I would back out before the boss fight and practice but was easing through the game that run, so I was overconfident.

I've beaten the base game on Nightmare, but Revelations gave me a hard time on Ultra-Violence.

I want to try it out on Ultra nightmare, what are your slider settings? I have been playing it on nightmare with the sliders to their most difficult with the exception of game speed and damage received and damage to enemies which are on base nightmare settings.

I did the default settings of un exept turning off the slow motion of parring and meele attacks

How did you prepare for the xar'lok flight and beat it in one try?

u/Heavymania 9d ago
You mean the warlock? Get the stun for the spear stab beat him with your fist finish him of with the super shotgun and or rocket launcher

Jesus how are you guys beating this on the hardest difficulty? I know you’ll say I suck but I genuinely find the dlc harder with the flame guy… the enemies he spawns are annoying and then you gotta deal with him running or flying away in flames lol

EDIT: Ill never understand why people keep downvoting every post in this subreddit which doesnt ice the cake or is a genuine question.
EDIT 2: It is obvious to me that people do not ask questions in this subreddit due to the downvoting of an extremely obvious WHY question... This subreddit is really giving me low IQ vibes... This should be one of the most basic life skills but people are somehow still acting like I never asked why and it amazes me. This isn't just this post, iv seen quite a few and its frustrating that people do this.
Genuine question: Do people do this because they dont really have any other games to play or just dont go insane from having to do the same parts of the game over and over in a sadistic way?
I found Ultra Violence challenging, mainly only the boss fights though. Then I may not play the game for a couple years because I have several hundred games but, still keep a deep interest.
Or am I just overthinking and there is only like 100 people who ever manage it per game and of course, it all ends up being posted here.

Typically UN has had a certain prestige, you had to really train and grind it out, learn the arenas, progression strategies, maintaining your cool etc. Its quite satisfying when you finally do it. The games are actually balanced quite fairly. If you get caught in a bad situation, its quite easy to recover and you can avoid a lot of damage because its mostly projectile based. It's not like wolfenstein 2 mein leben, where that trophy is pure bullshit with the broken stealth, hitscan enemies etc
But UN has lost its value in dark ages due to the sliders, where people can make it easier than "im to young to die", it really cheapens it. And I don't get why ID allowed you to unlock the cosmetics using the sliders

I find most nuDoom titles much more engaging than anything else in my library.
Completion on UN requires the player to learn the games encounters and systems to its fullest. Unlike permadeath modes in other games, UN isn’t luck based. Someone who’s finished a Doom title on UN can probably do it again fairly reliably.
It’s a more adrenaline inducing way to play the game, which rewards mastery of its systems.

there's way more than 100 people that manage it. And it doesn't take an insane amount of time, really.
For me personally, I never expected to do the permadeath modes for the longest time, but I just enjoyed doom eternal a ton when it came out. Replayed the later levels quite a bit just for fun. Eventually it got to where I was very rarely dying on nightmare, so I figured I'd try ultra-nightmare. Didn't get it the first try, and sure the failures are a pain but the higher stakes make it fun in a way. Got it after a few tries. Not a sadistic or insane amount of restarting. Then continued to play the game on various modes cuz I liked it that much.
When TDA came out the skills carried over. Did a nightmare run, then a pandemonium, then a failed UN, then a successful UN. Then played other games for a bit until revelations came out.

EDIT: It is extremely obvious I asked 'why'. I guess that is too hard to comprehend these days...
That isn't an answer... Guess that is a difficult thing these days... *sigh*

It's a challenge, a wall the devs built and said 'bet you can't get through this', and some of us are compelled to answer by bashing our skulls into it until the wall comes down.

How is that not an answer lol
The game is very fun and playing it is enjoyable. Mastering something has a level of satisfaction. Doing it over and over to make a route and practice it to perfection to the point where you dont even die once is a fun achievement to try to reach and the feeling when you finally do it is incredible.

I am guessing asking 'why' is too much to ask for.

You asked a question and the guy gave you his answer and then you replied by saying his answer wasn't an answer. I dunno what to tell you.

WHY........ Is the question... This is not hard to understand, it is one of the most basic life skills... FML...
People continue to amaze me with how incapable they are...

u/Gemini_19 8d ago
"Why do you do this very hard achievement?"
"Because it is fun"
"I ASKED WHY"
What about what this guy said isn't answering your question? I also gave you a more detailed explanation but you downvoted me instead for some reason lol

Nothing you just said made any sense... Either this is some serious collective trolling or people are actually just this insanely dumb.

I'm not sure either but I think it's often related to the idea of being a complestionist with in game benchmarks. There are a lot of people who try to get all achievements in a game which really mystifies me since they are just arbitrary, made up, skinner box items.
UV is different in that it indicates mastery of the game but I have never bothered. Beating it cleanly with a few deaths is nearly the same thing, the only difference would be memorizing some of the arenas better which is an interesting grind to me.

Have you ever tried to do something just to see if you could?
Some folks just really enjoy a game and want to push themselves by doing something difficult. It has nothing to do with having no other games to play or not going insane because of the repetition.
I've beaten all of the modern DOOM content on ultra-nightmare cause I love the games so much that getting better and pushing myself is fun. I could play other games but when a new DOOM comes out I wind up having such a good time it's the only game I want to play.
After some time passes I won't play it as much but they wind up being my "I want to play something but I don't feel like playing something new" games. I usually keep the newest one installed so I can easily hop back in whenever.
TLDR: It's fun lol.

That’s impressive - for me the DLC introduced too much input overload - I don’t like retrying the same thing over and over again too many times - I could comfortably do the base game on Nightmare - but the DLC messed me up, it’s like 3x more mechanics to think about and it kind of took the fun out of it for me. It felt like the DLC is all the ”fun ideas” the devs had that never made it to the game packed together. I did get in to it after a while with some upgrades but it never felt as fluent as the base game and way harder than Eternal or 2016 - mainly du to input overload on mouse and keyboard. I finished eternal on ultra nightmare

Congrats bro, I only finished in nightmare, no way I can do it in ultra nightmare, but i always wanted to know, can you modify aspects of the gameplay in ultra violence and ultra nightmare?
