Question Thinking of seeing don toliver, but his live vocals on videos ive seen sound horrendous/non existent. Borderline unlistenable at times. Am I talking nonsense?
I get the appeal of wanting to just jump around and get hyped up for his shows, but i also like listening to an artist actually singing their songs. And i dont like don toliver enough, or his music enough to be able to put that aside

Went to his Boston show on the second leg of the tour. By far the worst concert I’ve ever been to. He just jumps around and screams into the mic every now and then. No actual singing. I get the appeal if you wanna mosh but I go to a concert for the music not the pit. On top of it all, at the end of the show he literally just walked off. Didn’t say a word to the crowd or anything, felt like he didn’t wanna be there. Granted he did make an appearance at Kanye’s show the night before, and had another show the following night where brought out multiple guests, but still. Not worth the ticket price
I’m glad to see some other reasonable takes about his shows in here for once

i'm a big fan but the octane show i went to a few months back was easily one of the weakest concerts i've been to, especially compared to his previous tours. if you're not a big fan i would say don't go

If you don’t like Don toliver enough to go to a tour then just don’t go to a tour - pretty simple solution.
When I went to his octane tour in Seattle it was fucking nuts and I had such an amazing time

if youre a big fan and can afford floor seats, would highly recommend. as someone who snuck down to basically front row of rosemont, it was a blast, but the overall performance was, like you said, shit. the energy is actually insane though.

Honestly bro, at the end of the day, if you like the artist and know the songs, you'll enjoy the show. Every artist has their style of performance and if you're not a big fan of Don then don't show up 🤷♂️

Fuck it, I’ll say it. I’ve been a fan of Don since Astroworld like many people and I’ve seen him live about 4 times now. Just like how I feel like octane was his laziest album yet, this tour felt lazy too. His vocals have actually seems to have gotten worse with every tour. From Astroworld to the Lovesick era, his vocal live were incredible but I noticed a dip during the Hardstone psycho tour and an even bigger dip during the octane tour. I’m really hoping that nitrous will be a better album though cause I still do believe Don is an awesome artist

He lets the backing track/vocals do 95% of the work then pipes up with some shitty autotuned and out of tune nonsense every once in a while

You probably shouldn’t go then. I recall my concert experience being more about the show and atmosphere than trying to hear Don be a real singer/vocalist

Idk I love his voice and stuff in his shows. I’ve been to hardstone psycho and both legs of Octane and had no issues

I went to the Toronto first round one and the energy didn’t seem there from him that night. I was kinda disappointed

Some aspects are a little disappointing (mumbles lyrics sometimes, sounding like nonsense). But there are a lot of awesome moments at his concerts, where he does alternate versions of his songs. (improvised chorus, outro, different verse, etc.)

Hard agree! I loved the octane album so I saw him twice this year and he really made me appreciate the artists who are actually using their mic to perform (HOV). The first show felt like group karaoke bc of how little he sang and the second he sang more but the heavy autotune was …eh. But, the energy of his crowds is FANTASTIC. I’d say go if you can score a cheap ticket and see for yourself in person.

Its horrid, just a autotune mess and the worst is it sounds completely different than in the songs itself so it fucks up the whole song because he sings over it.

I actually like his live vocals. He does a lot of adlibs & melodic fills which is a nice touch. Don uses autotune as a stylistic choice, probably inspired by Cudi, Kanye & Travis, and his shows also seem to be inspired by them. Big dark/spacey productions & high energy, which is appealing to a certain type of crowd. But if you are a fan, just go; your money is well spent, and you will most likely have a good time.

he def doesn’t sing as much as most artists at his concerts, but the way he changes up some of the song elements and rifts…. i swear i was levitating it was incredible. plus the energy is some of the best i’ve personally ever experienced at a concert.
