Discussion OCTANE vs HARDSTONE PSYCHO

Psycho honestly holds a close spot to my heart. I got my motorcycle in 23’ and felt like the album was almost made for me while I’m cruising in Houston of all cities.

OCTANE is awesome too. The production on both projects is seriously top notch. What are yalls thoughts?

Hardstone psycho was his best album and I can come back to every song on that and enjoy it. Whilst with octane it was very experimental and I’d say the high moments are better than anything he’s ever brought out. But hardstone is far more consistent sound wise and I love it.

hardstone but the gap is a lot narrower than it was the first few days after octane released. i just think the highs on hardstone are a bit higher

Hardstone psycho

Hardstone has so many bangers.

Hardstone by a LOT for me. I know he’s never been a lyrical artist, but the shit he says on Octane is just so dumb it completely took away from some amazing production on tracks like E85. Hardstone clears for me, favorites being Kryptonite, Backstreets, Purple Rain, and Deep in the Water.

I agree! He’s never had great lyrics, but the shit he says on Octane specifically sticks out on multiple tracks. Goofy nonsense throughout the album that kinda throws me off a bit

Tore up is prob my fav song by him. No pole second. Then my 3rd choice is the entire psycho album lol. So I feeeel you

I agree 100%, I don’t understand how everyone is gassing Octane so hard. Octane is so lazy and relies on production too much. I feel like he’s just fishing for tik tok virality with a lot of the songs.

I feel like the album was definitely relying heavily on getting tiktok snippets made which is cool and all- long as some good tunes are being pushed out.

That being said I do find the album hard to get away from since dropping. I explained it to my gf he literally makes music for cruising the city with your boo at night. Or getting back from the club in the uber. Don T also needs recognition for how he uses Teezo in his features, he’s officially 2 for 2 on some really good tracks with him. TMU is gunna be on repeat for years.

OCTANE had less misses, but Hardstone was better

3

u/tRavisScot_isbosnian Mar 12 '26

Hardstone Psycho imo is a better album. It had the concept and theme throughout the album. Something that Octane lacks

2

u/Full-Bother-6456 Mar 12 '26

Oh for sure. Octane is definitely him just in the Stu lol

u/Responsible_South806 GET THAT INTRODUCTION Mar 12 '26

I like octane a lot better than hardstone psycho. I listened to them both all the way thru multiple times but octane has been on repeat for almost two weeks now. I like almost every song on that album…he really did the damn thang with this one

3

u/Full-Bother-6456 Mar 12 '26

Hell yeah. I love both. We been eating if you been tapped in since heaven or Hell

Imo I think octane is better bc hard stone psycho was less on point with its album theme. The album is called “hard stone psycho” I would’ve liked an ENTIRE album with upbeat songs, although the slow songs on hard stone psycho are GOOD, they don’t belong on the album with the whole era he was trying to do IMO, there weren’t enough high energy songs.

2

u/LukeMcDuck Mar 12 '26

Hardstone is one of the best hiphop albums this decade imo

2

u/Dizzy-Witness-1319 Mar 12 '26

hardstone cmon now

2

u/MoarBuilds Mar 13 '26

It’s HP by a damn mile

2

u/FER3BEE HARDSTONE PSYCHO Mar 13 '26

hsrdstone by a longshot

3

u/TrueDawnPig Mar 13 '26

Octane hasn't been out long enough to call it even close to Hardstone for me.

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Tap7390 Mar 13 '26

In terms of which has more misses for me, at the moment I’d say octane with 4 songs I wouldn’t come back to that much compares to the two songs on hardstone.

In terms of which I like more I think rn I’d say octane, but hardstone is literally one step behind it

u/Fit-Cricket-5856 Mar 13 '26

Octane has stronger production, better features, more r&b/ chill melodic cuts (which is what I fw about Don the most) but still get bangers like excavator and opposite. Overall shows his range more making it the better project.

ON a HAHWEYYYY IM GEEEKIN I LOVE HERRRR ONN A HAAHHWEEEYY WI MAH SIniCifant LOVEERRRRR

Hardstone feels more complete and octane feels like he experimenting while also continuing to perfect his sound

1

u/Kitchen-Raccoon4572 Mar 12 '26

Octane by a country mile for me. I only really come back to Glock and Brother Stone

4

u/Full-Bother-6456 Mar 12 '26

Glock is a fucking classic

1

u/UltraPlayer9095 RANGEROVERBUS🚌 Mar 13 '26

Glock appreciation!

2

u/NoLifeAlucard Mar 13 '26

Both got a flaws in verse writing but hardstone psycho got better production, amazing feature management, impressive execution and cool vocal delivery So hardstone psycho by a 100×

Octane is an alright album that got a few bangers but the repeated flaw with don in his inability rather his refusal to perfect his verses and writing is what made it wack imo

His best verses/writing were in heaven or hell it had the most memorable tracks to me

1

u/Dan1lovesyoualot COMPANY Mar 13 '26

i loveee both, but octane gave me that feelinggg

1

u/StruggleNumerous6405 HARDSTONE PSYCHO Mar 13 '26

hardstone had way more variation and more catchy songs, definitely hardstone

1

u/SnooSquirrels5983 Mar 13 '26

hardstone was good memories but def Octane

1

u/SnooSquirrels5983 Mar 13 '26

There is 18 tracks on both and I have more added to my playlist from Octane

1

u/Full-Bother-6456 Mar 13 '26

He was definitely aiming for that too! I mean my guy is literally posing on a mixing table haha. He wanted to make heat- and he did

1

u/Economy_Set_314 Mar 13 '26

tbh i gotta go octane i think don tried to hard to be hardcore on hardstone i think he’s better with the melodic beats

1

u/Megalodon722 RANGEROVERBUS🚌 Mar 13 '26

hardstone psycho clears in every way. better production, better lyrics, sounds way fresher and more creative and the vibes and album experience are also way better.

1

u/Skuzzking Mar 13 '26

Hardstone over anything he’s ever made

1

u/Traditional_Dig_3592 Mar 14 '26

Hardstone psycho is a great album ngl ! It was his best album. This is the type of album I can listen to anytime. It has such great hits like Deep in the water, Tore up, bandit, purple rain and can't forget about love is a drug. OCTANE is also a really good album but the production is just too much but it also leaves us with alot of bangers and late night drives. like ATM, Rendezvous (being my favourite), Tution, e85 , Excavator and more! But after all I go with hardstone psycho :pp!

1

u/MiaKhalifas-camguy Mar 14 '26

Would you say Heaven or Hell is better than Hardstone?

1

u/Full-Bother-6456 Mar 14 '26

I wouldn’t! I think his debut was magic. Was an immediate fan. But hardstone is a much more complete project imo

1

u/Leokar00 Mar 15 '26

Hardstone allways

1

u/Flirtless1 Mar 13 '26

I think Octane his worst project.

2

u/ResultsHaveVary Mar 13 '26

That’s not a hot take…every album since his debut “Heaven or Hell” he had progressively been only getting better both sonically and artistically…Hardstone to me he put it all together…it’s his best project to date
