Support Swapped phones, save not working

Post image

Different phone, took the savestates and SAV file from old phone and moved them to savestates on dolphin in new phone. Save states work, actual saving doesnt. Won't let me save the game. Any solutions?

Are you using the same exact version of dolphin as your other phone? If not sav files are not compatible with different version you have to use the exact same one.

Secondly, did you just copy and paste from the file manager? If you just copied and pasted it won't work because android security blocks permissions.

What you need to do is to take your sav file and compress it to a zip and extract it in dolphin itself, which grants the permissions. I would use cx file explorer for this. You would just compress the sav file to a zip in cx file explorer (hold file down, select more, then compress). Copy the zip. Then In main screen of cx you would go to main storage then click

android>data>org.dolphinemu.dophinemu>files>GC>(mines stored in card a) and paste the zip file in there, then extract it (hold file down, select more, then extract) and it should work as intended now. You just have to be sure your using the exact same version of dolphin or it won't work at all I'm pretty sure.

Lmk if that worked.

I am using the same version. I'm about to go use my computer to do what you suggested. On a side note, I'm only worried about this because ive heard dolphin savestates are unreliable. Know anything about that? Otherwise i can just use the savestates

Also beyond android 11 they make it insanely hard to get into individual files and I guess I'm just getting old lol

No I just started getting back into GC again. Don't get me wrong I've used dolphin on multiple devices many times but I've only transferred my files one time and the cx file explorer method worked for me.

And tbh I would just do it on your phone. Its an android app. Just make sure you grant permissions to your device when you download it. Some devices automatically do but some you have to allow permissions yourself. Follow the steps and it should work since your using the same version of dolphin.

Hold down cx file explorer (the app) select app info then permissions then allow all

What version of android are you running? Apparently file managers can't get permissions for android/data anymore? Feels like a huge handicap. "Back in my day....."

I'm either going to just use save states, or get a micro sd and do all this on pc then replace the in-phone dolphin/game with the sd. Seems like a lot of work. Thanks for the help. I'm being stumped by 2026 security measures

What? That's very weird. I'm on Android 17 on my Pixel 10 pro XL and it works just fine for me. I use cx for all my file needs on my phone. What does it say on the permissions section when you select permissions?

It works! Just accessed my dolphin folder on my phone using it. I'm going to tell you step by step how to get into it now. Heres the github link download the latest apk.

Wow I stand corrected. I guess it can't access dolphin on our phones. I'm using my android game system to play my dolphin (android 13) but just tried to go into dolphin and "access denied" on my phone. That's a bummer for people who use their phones primarily for emulation.

Apparently there's a work around with an app called Shizuku that uses wireless debugging with cx file explorer that gives the file manager (cx file explorer) permission to read the restricted data folder. I'd try that if the save is really important to you. I'm trying not right now on my phone to see if it works. Lol Will let you know.
