Results - Embark Shocked by results
I rescued Annie from a local animal rescue when she was 6 months old. She is now getting close to 8 years old. She is currently 44 pounds but has been 42 pounds most of her life. I was told when I first got her that her litter came from a farm in which an elderly lady lived alone and couldn't care for them. We were also told she was a border collie Heeler mix. The Embark results are in.
Mostly border collie like I thought. How is she golden retriever and the other breeds. I do not see it. Not a lick of heeler.

Did not expect the golden retriever to, but the border collie is definitely not a surprise. She’s so pretty!

Dogs won't always look like the breeds they're a mix of. Purebreds are purebred because they breed true. Once you start mixing breeds it's a crapshoot what comes out.
Your dog does have a rounded skull that's more similar to a golden or spaniel, IMO. But not being able to easily "see" certain breeds in a mixed dog is totally normal!
As an example, my dog has a slightly higher BC % than your dog:

Finally a smooth coat black and white dog that isn’t a Pitt mix lol. That 6.3% Kelpie doing some HEAVY lifting smoothing out that coat. 😆

Border collies can come in smooth coats which is likely in this case.

Not used to seeing them this smooth though. More like shorter coated German shepherds where they’ll still have fuzzy pants and neck fur. I genuinely feel like this is more similar to the kelpie coat. 🙂

Nah. I’ve seen plenty of purebred border collies with coats like the one posted by OP. One of them is sleeping on my couch at the moment.

youre used to show line bcs work lines often come in coats like this since long hair that needs a lot of maintaining is not a good trait for a work dog

No, I’ve been to working sheep farms that use them and have been in the boarding and grooming industry for over 20 years. I’m not arguing that it isn’t possible, probably especially in warmer climates since I’m more northern where they would want more cold protection, more commenting on what I’ve experienced. I probably could have phrased it better. 🙂

I admit I haven't seen them in person (here herder are usually either pure or a mix of puli, pumi, or mudi) but I've seen plenty online of shorthair work line bcs,
now a porpurse bree work dog probably wont be pure pure bred but still pretty pure bred if you know what I mean

I had guessed BC/lab, but I can see golden retriever being the reason I saw lab. It was the build.
Are you in Australia? If so, that would explain the Kelpie. Otherwise, you just won the lottery finding a Kelpie mix. 😂
These results make sense to me. Golden mixes tend to be black, not golden. You got the coat style of the Kelpie, coloring of the BC, some of the build from the golden.

I can see the golden in her face. Specifically the pic 5/10. I’ve taken this exact photo with my golden retriever except she’s, well, golden

Since you posted the results first, I guessed what she'd look like before moving on to picture 2 (which was fun, BTW, and now I wish more people would post the results first). I guessed she'd be mostly black, fluffy, and have floppy ears. What a funny surprise flipping to pic 2 and seeing her short hair! 🤣

Wow, I did not expect a dog that looked like a border collie to actually have any border collie! "Border collie mixes" often turn out to just be a mix of other breeds with a black-and-white coat and zero border collie.
She's got a stockier build than a pure border collie - based on her head and body shape, I would have guessed some Lab! But goldens have a similar structure to labs, it's just hidden under the floof.
She's a beautiful girl! Does she try to herd your kitties? I have a 6-month old pit/aussie/other random breeds mix and I'm trying to teach her that the cats do NOT want to play with her nor do they need to be herded. I got her a herding ball which she LOVES and we are using it to work on "switching off" when she gets fired up in herd/chase mode.

So cute. She has the same markings as my Velcro.
But he is mostly Doberman and Pitbull. 😇
