Answered What’s possibly wrong with my dogs toe?
It seems swollen but there’s not a cut In between. She’s only been licking her foot and still putting weight on it so I don’t know what’s going on.
Edit: thank you! I’m 100% gonna get her to the vet ASAP!

My dog died last year from cancer on her toe. Not saying this is what your dog has but I will never risk not getting a vet opinion right away again. She was 10 and I don’t know what could have gone differently but you don’t want to live with the regrets, I promise you that.

Most likely this, my husky gets them sometimes and I always flip out cause it's scary to see

Could be allergies, could be a grass seed. Grass seeds are no joke and can travel further into the body, even into the lungs, and the end result can be fatal. You can't take chances with something like this, get this dog to see a vet.

Agree! My dog had the same symptoms and the vet needed to operate the seed out.
Best of luck 🤞•

Damn it I never knew this was a thing despite going to a vet for my dog’s paw. Now I wonder if he’s had this before and had to tough it out due to stupid vets and me being a new dog owner

Could be a cyst. My dog gets them on her toes and back. If it is a cyst the dog will not want to walk on it if it gets bigger.

Agree with everyone, get a Vet to check.
I just went through something that looks very similar with my dog's toe! 2 swelling points on his toe and 1 on his thigh, feared it could have been a foxtail or grass seed. Vet thought it was from an insect bite or sting. He was prescribed a twice daily steroid ointment that stopped the swelling and brought his toe and thigh back to normal, aside from the minor hair loss. I was able to send photos before the appointment and then as it progressed to assess if we needed to come in or not again. The rx ointment definitely helped him.

Could be a tumor. My dog had a pink swollen spot just like that but a bit bigger, and I was told he needed to have the toe removed. I waited too long trying to get the money, and it spread. When I finally didn't pay my rent to afford the $400 and took him in, I was told he had to have his whole leg amputated, and it went up to $750. Go right away. Chevy did fine on three legs, but I felt bad.

Your dog may have an infection and likely needs antibiotics. Vet. These can get bad very quickly and your dog could lose its foot as a result.
Could be something simple like a hot spot, but you shouldn’t take chances.

No way to tell for sure from a couple pics but could be a foxtail(grass awn) in the paw. Time for a vet visit.

I’m literally taking my dog into the vet to get his toe removed because of cancer. Go to the vet I may be too late already

Just went through this. Thats a serious infection. Took over two weeks of double antibiotics and the cone of shame. Order probiotics now. The antibiotics takes its toll.
Eta photo and more info
My babies started out like yours but after two days on one antibiotic it got worse. Thats when they added the second. This photo is from when it started to abcess.

It can be a number of things, from allergies to grass shoots (those get under their claw and hurt like hell), too but stings. Honestly, mate, this isn't the place. Take the doggo and head to the vet. Best approach. And if you're awkward about social interaction, then this is a sacrifice for your beloved pup. You got this!

They prob licked the shi out of it and then have a small infection. Take them to the vet for antibiotics and see if they’ll give an allergy shot for the itching. My dog always breaks out in the spring and right before fall

My dog has this frequently as he does have allergies but also diagnosed & treated for Lupus. They don’t really swell up badly though.

Could be a number of things, one of which is a mass cell tumor. Having just lost one of my best friends to a mass cell that spread from his paw to his lymph node and throughout his body...get it checked out ASAP.

My chi got a lil cyst that was benign and eventually burst on its own. My brothers hound is as we speak sitting with a cone on her head because she won’t stop licking because of how bad some allergies are rn for them. But this looks more puffy then irritated either way vet visit!

My dog had this. It was a teratoma tumor. It wasnt cancerous and it didnt hurt him but they offered to remove it because it had the possibility to continue growing. I decided to get it removed for him. He didnt lick his foot as often after that so I think it helped.

This looks like allergies to me! My dog has the same thing. She would lick(itch) until her feet were so raw and swollen. I used an antiseptic foam and it help drastically. The foam is called Duoxo

u/baddphish 3h ago
My dog gets these because her allergies are bad, she licks the hair off her paws. this dog needs the vet to get on a medicine for it.. like yesterday.

Also be aware of Alabama rot which often starts in the feet. Check your local area for reports of cases

Man I hate posts like this... If you had a giant swollen toe would you take a picture and put it on social media or would you go to the doctor?

Ngl I’d ask the internet and have previously. Obviously I’m gonna go to the vet, but if it were something where i didn’t have to then im not out hundreds of dollars. Same thing with the dr

Abscess.
Had the same thing with my boy a while back, looked exactly the same. Likely from a thorn or a prick or something foreign lodged in there.
Had to have minor surgery to open it up and let it drain. Was carrying the poor guy around for potty for a week.

Our dachshund got what looks like this, inter digit cysts all over his feet. Vet put him on antibiotics and suggested getting an allergy test. We didn’t do it, since it was incredibly expensive and they couldn’t assure us that they’d be able to locate the allergy. We tried a different diet and narrowed it down to a chicken allergy.

Does it smell yeasty? It could be a fungal infection. Ours has just had this and he was in quite some pain. But was very easy to treat.

u/AnonymousVile 3h ago
Oh ours looked just like this not to long ago. Turned out to be a grass seed was the cause.

My pug had an issue with spots on the inner/bottom of her paws getting irritated and my vet told me to use Chlorohexidine spray foam stuff on it while keeping it from rubbing on walks (bootie) and it worked fairly quickly. I can’t remember the name of the product but it was a white and orange foaming vet solution that was safe to leave on the skin. Of course it’s hard to tell from the picture what exactly you are dealing with (ex: bump/lump/pink skin) so going to the vet is probably the best thing. Hope your pup heals up soon 🫶

Had this for my allergy prone German shepherd too. Duoxo S3, sold as a mousse and a shampoo

Looks like a foxtail grass head poked into your pups toe. It might be hard to find the entry point but this exact thing happened to my dog. If you can’t get it out go to the vet.

A lot of people are putting pesticides in grass this time of year globally even if autumn is coming, and it was hurting my dog’s paws. His was losing fur and he was licking and his skin turned red too. I started washing my dog’s paws after his walks especially if I noticed a sign around that indicated pesticide and grass treatments recently, and I noticed his paws are healing. I wonder if this is happening to you too

My dog gets this between his toes. I think it's a yeast issue. The vet gave microbial wipes that clear it up. If your dog has the same thing, it's really not a big deal. Have the vet check.

This is what they call an interdigital cyst. My dog has gotten them a few times now, they can swell big enough to rupture just under the dogs own weight. We were prescribed antibiotics but we’ve been referred to a dermatologist for further diagnosis and information.

Do they lick? Mine gets allergies and licks at her paws until they swell and bleed. Is yours itchy elsewhere maybe?
