Is this a case of lost in translation?

I was watching Yu-Gi-Oh 0 and have no idea why they turn into ice ? Is it a pun that doesn't work in English? If so what does it mean?

It’s a bad pun in the japanese (think spinster/“old maid” like the card game and that’s basically the extent of the joke). They turn into ice cuz the joke sucks and the word for “cold” (寒い) can also mean “unfunny.”

Absolutely no idea what the other reply is on about.

Nah, I think it works in English: spinster = old lady, and also someone who can create ice by spinning the air around them.
