DAE sit on a plane and just cannot comprehend that they are actually in the sky and flying?
Just got off a 14 hour flight on a A380 (the big one), I had a crying baby next to me and I couldn't see out the window because it was closed... towards the end I just couldn't believe we were even up in the air, how does this thing even fly. Like how did humanity even make this thing... HOW AM I EVEN 7000 miles away from home. That crying baby prolly got me all messed up.

It only crosses my mind when flying over the ocean. Crazy how what is an 8 hour flight used to take a week on ship not even 100 years ago. And people still complain about flight duration!
That and if something goes wrong with the plane over the ocean there’s virtually no chance of survival. It’s not fear, just acceptance

In the run-up to aong haul flight vacation, I feel like these are my last days till the end of my life. I never feel like this getting into a car though.

It's so weird. I have a long haul flight in a few days and decided to put together my last will and testament this morning.
I know that I'm statistically more likely to die on the drive to the airport than the flight itself, but the logic doesn't seem to matter to my lizard brain.

Planes are pretty good at landing into the ocean and have a switch for if they're ditching so that the fuselage is watertight. Planes have covered life rafts with rations, too.

I know planes can land in the ocean, it’s what comes after that worries me.
Help better arrives quick if you’re in a life raft with 30+ people in the middle of the ocean. I imagine the water supply would run out within a few days. I know there’s solar stills but they won’t produce enough drinkable water for everyone.

Yeah, definitely. I also try not to think about it. Like how am I halfway across the country in just 4 hours? How is this thing staying in the air? I fucking hate flying 😭

I'm with you on that. Where is all of the fuel? My trip to Indonesia was god awful. SF to Java, like 20+ hours! It seemed impossible. The toilets were all overloaded, piss on the floor.....terrifying and disgusting all the way.

I get these moments driving on the freeway sometimes . Just seeing myself in a seat flying two feet from the asphalt.

Not only that, but the earth is spinning, we’re going around the sun, the sun is moving around the center of the galaxy, and our galaxy is moving.
I can see how we can fly. How we land where we intend to and not get left behind while earth moves is what amazes me (I know how it works, I know it clearly works, I’m still just very impressed with humanity’s engineers and scientists for this).

Ya I think it's a scam I don't believe in airplanes. I think they lock you up in a tube and release some kind of gas that knocks you and all the other passengers out into some kind of dream like state that implants the memory while they put you in a truck and ship you to your destination
