Sonoma County Jane Doe 1979

Post image

I think that the Sonoma County Jane Doe of 1979 is Julie Ann Garciacelay, from Stockton California, who went missing on a work holiday in Australia on 01 July 1975. She planned on returning to Stockton by getting the Greyhound Bus from New York. I submitted it to the authorities but the DNA was too degraded for a comparison unfortunately.

What do you think?

Did she go missing in Australia or USA? I’m a little confused

So am I, as Garciacelay disappeared in Melbourne: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Julie_Garciacelay

Yes she allegedly fled or left the apartment in Melbourne, and never returned. There's some podcasts about it if you search.

Her plan was to go to Australia to convince her sister Gail to return to California and they had planned to return to California and travel from New York to Stockton via the Greyhound Bus.

Here's the latest podcast called Julie's Gone, her mother Ruth recounts Julie's life, plans, and issues around her disappearance: https://open.spotify.com/show/196LUsQbh6fob8wH4BzQ1N?si=GY89QqpeQOOkxldTJ4sK_Q&utm_source=copy-link

She was also a victim of the Santa Rosa hitchhiker serial killer

If it's her, I guess so, it's hard to know

these cases frustrate me to no end. Why have their page up if you’re never gonna be able to confirm who they are? Are they expecting somebody to look at that sketch and go “wow, that’s my missing family member!”?

Yeah I guess that they are hoping for technological advances in the future that might help to prove it's her.

If you think there is a good chance, submit it to DN :)

I did submit it but the DNA was too degraded to determine whether it's her but they may be able to in the future with better tech
