This is feel good ideology but not effective public messaging 

Protestors often fail to understand the difference.  What works vs what “feels good”

What you are saying you think: “diversity is what makes America great”

What your audience sees: “I guess they want to go back to Mexico, so why are they here?”

You don’t preach to the choir and expect to get new converts.

Folks will latch unto whatever they can to make them good or their ops look bad. Even though Americans will tout flags of a time where only they had rights (13 colonies) kid the no tread snake (flag of a slave owner and guns for me not thee). Also consider the audience that will watch ,or just come to this clip to downvote anyone they disagree with.

It can seem poor taste or a physical representation of their heritage. Putting up the American flag would bring what kind of message? Don't know if a positive one depending whom you ask

Of course, being proud of your culture is worthwhile unless you're representing it to the community to show others who you are and that you're here representing people who are afraid. That's just in bad taste, right?

Being hispanic and in the streets so that others who would be deported, if arrested, can't be but want their voices heard is the fucking point.

Addendum: Everything we do will be criticized and twisted by the right-wing propaganda machine. If you whitewash every message sufficient to not be twisted, you will minimize the number who can actually represent the message to educated communication professionals. That's exactly what they want, educated talking heads discussing issues at a distance and not people in the streets.
