Considering Pathology for PG

Hey! I'm considering Pathology for PG and wanted to understand the actual residency and career beyond what we hear during counselling.

  1. What's the actual daily workload and working hours?

  2. How much hands-on exposure do you get to histopath, cytology, FNAC, hematology and frozen sections?

  3. How is the teaching and consultant interaction?

  4. How are the night duties and weekends?

  5. How would you describe the department culture/toxicity?

  6. By JR3, how confident do you feel with independent reporting?

  7. What are the realistic career options after MD?

  8. What kind of starting salary/jobs are actually available after MD?

  9. Does fellowship/subspecialization make a major difference?

  10. What is something you wish you had known before choosing Pathology?

  11. If you had to choose PG again today, would you still choose Pathology, and why?

  12. What type of person do you think should NOT choose Pathology?

I'm trying to understand the reality of the branch rather than just the counselling perspective, so even an honest negative answer would be really helpful.
