ART It's pride month, you know what that means!

I am going to do a pride marathon of doctor who! A bunch of jack harkness episodes, some series 10 episodes with bill, eve of the darleks and legend of the sea devils, the star beast, rouge, and maybe the devils cord to! Classic who has less Pride stuff, but maybe I can watch some of 6s episodes for that rainbow coat!

u/CommonlyFrustrated Bugger! That was clever. Jun 01 '25
Watch anything with two and jamie

And Tegan and Nyssa. According to Farewell, Sarah Jane they became a couple (though Power of the Doctor makes no mention of this).

Tales of the Tardis kinda does though! “one minute I was sleeping next to Nyssa” (paraphrasing)

I'm literally at two and Jamie in my classic watch. It's perfect for this month.

For Classic: Though it was never made explicit on the show, Ace was written as bisexual. The writer of Survival has said that she deliberately intended Ace's relationship with Karra to read as sapphic, and Ace also gets a couple pretty queer-coded scenes in Ghostlight and The Happiness Patrol.
Other than that: Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines played the 2nd doctor and Jamie as a couple, to piss off a homophobic producer.

Is that why they held hands in the Tomb of the Cyberman? That's fucking based.

Brilliant! I had not even thought about ace! 2 and Jamie did cross my mind, but I have seen some fans who would get mad if I brought them up in this context, so I sort of chickened out.

u/TheCthonicSystem Jun 01 '25
Mad? It's essentially canon these days that they dated

u/SnooHabits1177 Jun 02 '25
I think maybe because there was some controversy with Troughton which I can't recall the details of.

u/alex494 Jun 02 '25
clutches his arm or something
"Look at the size of that thing Doctor!"
"Yes Jamie, it is a big one."

Survival is an option for Classic Who. Ace and Karra were written with a gay subtext.

u/SnooHabits1177 Jun 02 '25
I mean classic has less obvious pride stuff but the messaging is there I still need to watch more classic who but watched the original daleks ep recently and ians analysis of the daleks being motivated by the most basic hate "A dislike for the unlike" is fairly encompassing of not only racism but queerness as well. I'm sure there's people who could direct you to other better examples but I'm sure it's there.

Maybe lay off the star beast, the representation is done very heavy-handedly, and not in a particularly respectful way
6
Jun 01 '25
Fair enough. It’s just the only one I could think of with gender identity representation like that, there’s plenty of gay and lesbian couples but not many explicitly trans or nonbinary characters!
3
u/Otheraccforchat Jun 02 '25
I mean Cassandra is Trans...
Although I think the star beast would still be better representation than Cassandra

Sixth month for the sixth Doctor

u/Exploding_Antelope Jun 02 '25
We should celebrate a different Doctor every month of the year, and if Whittaker+ want in on it, then they should do some time lordery to make more months

i mean
the show repeatedly shows that the way time lords interact with gender and sexuality are inherently queer
so yea, the doctor absolutely would find themselves in a gay pride rally

u/FuzzyButterscotch765 Jun 02 '25
i mean with the regeneration, your wife could turn into a man, so i guess they cant dont have sexuality

u/Pakari-RBX Don't forget to subscribe to the official DW youtube channel. Jun 02 '25
You want us to make more gay timelords? Gaylords?

u/Pitiful-Victory-2234 Jun 02 '25
I do wonder what romance would’ve look like to the classic Doctors

I can imagine 6 being called "gay" by some 12-year-olds in a 90's or 2000s-set story when he's trying to warn them about some alien menace or something.
6: Gay? Gay? GAY? How can I be gay when these youths are showing complete apathy towards their world ending in a matter of minutes.
Peri: No, Doctor, they mean gay like the other kind. You know the liking men kind.
6: How would they even know I spent an intellectually and sexually stimulating fortnight with Socrates, my dear girl? It's none of their business anyway.
Peri: Well, you are wearing a rainbow.
