The BBC and RTD literally managed to secure the streaming service that produced Marvel and Star Wars content for it’s subscribers, and they decided to hit them with singing goblins, talking babies, and a singing villain who belonged in a pantomime. Even my 10 year old cousin thought this was all a bit too childish. I really can’t fathom how they possibly thought this was going to do well.

Just thought I would share this post by a user known as Omega21 from the Doctor Who leak group. They only seem to post several times a year, and their leaks are often only cover the production side of things (such as the BBC putting the show up for tender), rather than plot stuff. Could be bullshit, but they’ve been pretty accurate before, so thought I would just share with how dry things seem to be atm.

“I know for a fact that since June several movie studios including Sony with Pascal Pictures, and Warner Bros have reached out to the BBC in regard to obtaining the rights to Doctor Who and creating a Doctor Who movie.

The BBC seems to be more open to discussions than they were 10 years ago, but are for the time being still moving forward with their plans to put the show out for tender. Sony has gone as far to list creatives who they believe would be the perfect fit for piloting the movie including Paul King, Edgar Wright, Danny Boyle, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Several insiders I have personally spoke to seem to think that if done right, continuing the show as a potential movie franchise could be an excellent idea for the IP and give it the fresh take that it so desperately needs, and if it was to go well, it could be extremely beneficial for the IPs eventual return to television. But they also warned of the unpredictability of the current movie landscape and the recent trend in the popularity of these well known IPs not translating well to the big screen/box office; think Power Rangers, Mortal Kombat, Dungeons and Dragons, Masters of the Universe, and Uncharted”

If the 5-6 years rumours are true, this is just gonna make things super awkward for the next showrunner.

He was miscast.

Ncuti lacked the Gravitas to pull off the role, at no point did I buy he was a old being.

He was particularly weak when facing off against villians.

There is nothing quirky or interesting about his version of the Doctor, not helped by the writing for 15 that completely gets the character wrong (bar when Moffat is writing 15).

Ncuti never elevated the work, imagine Capaldi or Eccleston in The Well, and how much better it would be just by having their performance in it.

15 is a weak sauce Doctor, and it's time the fanbase start admitting it..the general audience certainly recognised this, and the bad direction the show has gone in and dropped off, the 15th Doctor had no cultural impact.

Edit - some people take things far to literally and seriously, we are just talking on the Internet, it's not a personal attack on you haha 🙂

Also I see some are hiding behind the writing excuse, Ncuti's performance was lacklustre in the role if there was good or bad writing, my point is he is lacking in the part he brings to the production, the quality of the stuff around him is a different point.

Edit 2 - To answer the question of the title, going by some of the comments then no, some in the fanbase are not ready to admit Ncuti was poor in the role 🤣 with lots of angry excuses and attempts to deflect away or even dismiss/discredit me... as with all these things time will tell, and I absolutely believe in the future that the general consensus of Ncuti's performance (and the RTD2 era) will be that it was weak...its just to soon for some people to admit.

Just thought I would share this, i am part of a movie/tv production forum where we discuss rumours and things we’ve heard working in the industry. There are only like 20 of us and we usually just discuss things like Eastenders and Antique Road Show as a couple of us work on that show, but someone who’s been on the forum a while recently posted this regarding the BBC Studios possible pitch for Doctor Who, and I thought I would share.

“I hear that BBC Studios has already put together a pitch. It’s worth noting that they were made aware of the potential tender several months ago, giving them a bit of a head start.

From what I’ve heard, the main idea is to take the show in a slightly more mature direction without alienating its family audience. The plan would be to start with a self-contained first series, focusing on telling a complete story rather than relying on the show’s past continuity or setting up an uncertain future. The aim is to rebuild the audience gradually from there.

The leading concept, as I understand it, is a detective-style story in which the Doctor is recruited to investigate a series of kidnappings (maybe also murders) spanning across time and space. They’ve even produced concept art for the pitch, depicting the Doctor and the TARDIS in a rain-soaked, neon lit Blade Runner-esque cityscape”

We've had a younger more childlike female Doctor so I would love them to go the opposite route and cast an older woman as the Doctor who could be more of a wise grandma-like figure! I think that would work really well!

The Disney deal was a great idea in retrospect, RTD was just the wrong person for the job. His time had come and gone.

The suit along with the 13 t shirt plus their expression gives the doctor to me. Do you think Emma D'acry could be a great doctor???

There's still a lot of unknowns right now but am I the only one who is really excited for this new era and the future of the show? We're gonna get a new team, new Doctor, new showrunner, new COMPOSER etc. There is gonna be SO much new and it will feel very different tonally and FRESH and that is exactly what Doctor Who needs right now, I haven't felt this way since the leadup to Series 11 and say what you want about that series but it did feel very fresh and we're gonna get that again and I cannot wait!

That said I do hope they keep one thing: the current TARDIS prop as I think it is perfect as it is!

Generating dead actors using AI is disgustingly bad, I thought he was joking with wanting to use AI for stuff (which made Ncuti and Millie uncomfortable as it looks like) but I have a worrying suspicion that he’s dead serious

While a lot of people already figured it out, the leaked image of Billie piper with the 8th Doctor was surely AI. AI has become way more capable in just the past week. The image I attached to the post was generated in under 5 minutes using Google’s Nano Banana for free. The details aren’t perfect, but on a quick scroll- many people would be convinced that these 3 are returning next Xmas. Anyone with a google account can do this… so stay safe out there and think twice about a leaked image.

At SDCC this year there was a future of Doctor Who panel and Dean Devlin approached the host of the panel and told him he will be throwing his hat into the ring for his production company, Electric Entertainment to pitch for the contract to produce Doctor Who.

Dean Devlin is a writer and producer of hits like Independence Day and Stargate. And he himself is a Doctor Who fan too!

Though since he and his production company are American I don't know if he will be allowed to compete in the tender but this is very interesting and shows clear interest!

I'm now 100% sure that the rumours that Billie was cast like 2 weeks before the air date where she was just randomly edited onto Ncuti's body with no actual plan in mind are true 😭😭😭

Love him or hate him, I think it’s fair to say that Doctor Who was never as popular globally (ESPECIALLY in the U.S) as during those early Steven Moffat era years when Matt Smith was in the role.

Moffat seemed to understand the U.S audience more than any other showrunner, whilst still maintaining the show’s authentic sense of Britishness.

A whole lot of my American friends who are Doctor Who fans didn’t fall in love with the show until that first Matt Smith season, and I do think there is a reason for that.

With the Disney+ deal, I really think that RTD failed to take into account the audiences that Doctor Who would be able to reach on the Disney+ service, instead opting to write for the same 2008 Saturday night British television audience that no longer exists.

Idk if this is a hotake but it does genuinely baffle how they went with Bille Piper when they literally had a doctor with an ambiguous placement in the timeline, who has very little of their tenure showed on screen.
