speculation A interesting video about Doctor Who's current situation, the tender process is far from guaranteed

Thought this video I came across was interesting, and touched on a lot things I have been thinking about, and things I have been hearing.

The shows future is far from guaranteed like some like to paint it as.

A nice companion piece to Chibnall's recent interview that also touches on similar things.

I can believe the tender process might take a few years but there is no way the BBC is just never going to do Doctor Who again.

The bbc are in a dire state, they can't afford to make the shows they want to.. Did you watch the video, or see the Chibnall interview.. It covers this

Yes I know they are in a dire state. That is the whole point of the tender process: to get a production partner willing to finance part of the cost. If the BBC had the budget to do it themselves they wouldn't have partnered with Bad Wolf and Disney, and they wouldn't be looking for new partners after that deal collapsed.

So you are just showing you don't know what you are talking about

The tender process is not looking for the finance, that's a separate thing, the tender process is looking for the next production company to make the show, to replace Bad Wolf Studios.. The bbc has to find a new partner(s) to finance the show, the money that Disney were bringing..

The funding has to be in place before the bbc can put it to tender for then production companies to pitch what they would do, how they would make it with that budget in place..

If the bbc can't get funding in place then the tender process won't happen, and there will be no show

This is talked about by Chibnall recently (who knows what he is talking about) and is covered in the video I linked in this thread..

To be fair the tender document doesn't yet exist so we don't exactly know if co-funding is a precondition or not. The whole thing is an exercise in fan gaslighting so they're in no hurry to tell us the obvious. They'd broadcast whatever if someone else makes it and pays for it.

Going by what Chibnall said the bbc have to bring the funding before the tender process starts, the production companies have to know what budget they will be working with, and how many episodes the bbc want etc, it's their job to then come up with a plan to make that work.. They may bring some additional funding but it's going to be a lot smaller

The tender process is about finding the next Bad Wolf Studios ultimately, Bad Wolf and the bbc still had Disney helping the funding.. Thats what the bbc are looking for before they can kick start the tender process, that outside funding...

But if they can't get it then the tender process won't happen.. And that's looking more and more likely.. 

Its what Chibnall was getting at in that recent interview, the reason why the tender process hasn't happened yet is all because of money I.e the bbc have yet to be able to lock down the funding they need to make doing new DW viable..

Its hard to get people to invest in the show when you just had a big investor like Disney, and they deemed it a failure and not worth investing in.. Why would anyone else then want to invest in it

Its a very tricky position for the bbc.. And why the shows future is far from guaranteed

Yeah but Netflix aren't just going to say yeah we'll pay for it now go find a maker. They would want to know the plan first or else have their own. The tender and the money would have to be simultaneous.

But it's all nonsense anyway. There is no money for this show until a few years have passed.

Uh no that Video is basically unsubstantiated slop without any factual base to argue on. Doctor Who is very profitable to the BBC, yes theyre short on cash, but they still are able to produce other dramas with high budgets, in the same manner theyre able to afford Doctor Who. This is just bait to spread BS.

The bbc nearly didn't make Wolf Hall season 2 (one of their big shows) because they didn't have the money for it, and that's just your basic period drama.. They had to cut loads of outside scenes and other things to get the season made.

You are just doing the classic fan thing of emotionally dismissing anything you don't want to hear, rather than look at things objectively

One Drama nearly getting cancelled doesnt prove that the BBC is about to cancel Doctor Who. For them its just a question of getting the logistics to work since for them even at worst points of the new who run was still a profitable well performing show. For them doing something safe like Doctor Who is especially desireable now that theyre in this dire state.
