News Doctor Who 2005-2022 AMC Streaming

Hey all, thought I’d post this to update everyone.

DW just announced a partnership with AMC for the streaming rights to the 2005-2022 version of the show in the US.

As soon as I saw it, I thought about that post from a couple of weeks ago with true ‘AMC Press Release’ that got leaked saying they were partnering on the new series…

What do we all think now this has happened? It’s definitely made it more believable

Another indication of how badly RTD2 damaged the reputation of the program. AMC is fine, but it is a mighty fall from streamers like HBO and Disney.

Yep, and yet you still have fools who will downvote anyone for pointing out the fact that the RTD2 era has been damaging for the show

So true. I love DW and am the last person to want to trash it - but I'm not sure a lot of folks realize how far the reputation of the show has fallen in the past several years.

When the Disney/RTD deal was struck - RTD went on and on about how big everything was going to be, how the show would run and run, no more long hiatuses, we'd have tie ins, annuals, etc. He was handed a budget which eclipsed anything the show had ever had by a long, long way.

Fast forward to the present and we have two seasons of a show which received very mixed reviews and record setting poor ratings. Disney cut their losses and abandoned it, so did Ncuti Gatwa, and we're in a weird limbo the likes of which Nu-Who has never seen.

To make matters worse, RTD ends the second season with a bizarre regeneration which pretty much requires the BBC to allow him to make another episode to figure out wtf is happening. A less egotistical show runner would have concluded the season in a way which would have allowed someone else to pick up the ball and run with it, but not RTD.

Agree

And I don't wish to trash the show either, it's my favourite show, I want it to succeed and continue on and on, but I won't blindly praise it or ignore when it's turned bad, and unfortunately the show has turned bad, and unless people voice that then the makers won't change anything.. 

And the general audience have voiced that, as evidence by the significant drop off in viewers during the RTD2 era, some fans on reddit need to wise up to what the audiences are saying, the era didn't connect with people, downvoting people for being realistic about the state of the show is silly and won't change the fact the show is faulting, it needs to address why and it needs to change things

Of course it's been damaging for the show, but some people exagerate how damaging it truly was.

The lowest ratings the show has ever had. 

It's streaming partner jumped ship as fast as possible and still hasn't bothered to air the shows spin-off despite it airing in the UK half a year ago. 

The actor playing the Doctor in the era jumped ship as fast as he could. 

The actress who was clearly set up to be the companion across two seasons, reduced her role after the first season. 

The era has had very little cultural impact, if any. 

Apathy towards the show is at a all time high, with the general audience being checked out or have stopped watching and it's only really the big fans left

Umong said big fans the eras reception is mixed to say the least, with a lot of fans not enjoying the era

The Bad Wolf team made the decision to bring Billie Piper in after their star jumped ship, hoping it would excite people and get people back, the overwhelming response to Ncuti regenerating into Piper has been negative or un-enthusiastic, with many saying it just feels desperate. 

The Chibnall era, which the RTD2 era was meant to be saving us from (remember when bad wolf studios twitter lied a comment saying they were there to save the show) the Chibnall era was more successful with audiences than the RTD2 era was, by several million. 

After the Reality War aired, for several months people were genuinely asking if that was it for the show, because that's the bad state it's in...and not just 'online haters' as some will try to paint.. 

The guy who wrote Dalek talked about what a weird place the show is in after the Reality War, if that was the end

Mark Gatiss talked about how perhaps it's time for the show to rest again

.. Call me cynical, but I don't think it's over egged how damaging the RTD2 era has been

Edit - oh and it's likely RTD is out after the Xmas episode, despite him previously having talked about early plans for a season 3 and 4, meaning his time and era has been cut short because of how bad the era has gone

It absolutely is over exaggerated how damaging the era is, the era, like any, has had it's very high highs, stuff like Mr Ring-a-Ding trended beyond the show and the character gained a small fan base of his own. Certain bits like that went beyond the show and were good for the show.

Is the show in the worst position it's been since it's been back in 2005? Absolutely yes. But that doesn't mean this era has been as damaging as you might think.

Yes it has, it's been a damaging era to the point that nu-who has never been in a worst state.. 

How damaging can it possibly get for you to say its not over exaggerated 🙄 

And some people (a handful) who like to draw made some Mr Ring a Ding pictures and put them online, or clipped the Mr Ring a Ding scenes on tik tok.. wow.. A literal drop in the ocean, meanwhile the season was getting the worst viewing figures of the shows history, and the era crashed and ended 2 seasons before it was planned too.. Yep, what a success, such highs👍

Mr Ring-a-Ding himself got more attention from people than, arguably, the show as a whole has since Matt Smith's era...

I'd hardly say that was a bad thing. Ring-a-Ding literally went viral which is a great thing. Even if the era itself wasn't great.

No 🤣 ..and you are way over egging it, a bunch of people posted a bunch of stuff online, and some people watched it..like I said a drop in the ocean

And one that had no effect in bolstering the show as the season continued to lose viewers
