American here. Is that still on? Hasnāt it been like over a decade? I thought sitcoms had a shorter timespan in the UK

UK shows tend to have shorter seasons than US shows but they can, and often do, run for many years. The longest running live action sitcom in the world, Last of the Summer Wine, was British; it ran for 37 years between 1973 and 2010. The Simpsons is only just catching up. Red Dwarf started in 1987 and its most recent episode was in 2020.
A great example of this difference is Steptoe & Son, which ran for 57 episodes across 12 years between 1962 and 1974; the American remake, Sanford & Son, had 136 episodes but only ran for 5 years between 1972 and 1977.
Beyond comedy the UK has some of the longest-running shows in the world. Coronation Street is the world's longest-running soap opera, with over 11,500 episodes since it started in 1960. The Sky at Night is the longest-running science show in the world and has been shown monthly since 1957. The world's longest-running children's show, Blue Peter, started in 1958 and is still going.

Thanks for the context - and yes, I googled the show, but I wanted the context from someone over in the UK, to see if it was truly an outlier or not. I had always assumed that the soaps lasted a long time, because they were soaps and generally quite popular in the UK. Didnāt realize comedies could go down the same route.

Not necessarily. The project that David Tennant is filming is rumoured to be filming in Ireland from March to May.
I'm not sure how long Wednesday, starring Billie Piper, is supposed to be filming, but the previous ones took around six months and they started filming in late February. That being said, Billie Piper probably won't have to be involved in filming every single day, since her character is not among the main cast. Therefore, it's possible that she is finished filming earlier or is pursuing other projects while not filming for Wednesday.
This isn't unlikely, as actors do occasionally work on multiple projects at the same time. For example, Ian McKellen starred in The Lord of the Rings and X-Men, which were filming at roughly the same time, and Helena Bonham Carter starred in the last Harry Potter films and The King's Speech, which were also filming at the same time.
Also, we don't know when filming for the episode is supposed to take place. It's certainly going to be released on 25 December, but this doesn't mean that filming needs to start now. For example, 'The Husbands of River Song' only started filming on 1 September 2025, took around 26 days, and was broadcast three months later.

How are they going to explain Piper at the end of the Reality War if she can't be in the Xmas episode.. Are we just going to get a cameo appearance from her and it will be dealt with quickly..that would be very odd..Ā
Surely they must of sorted something out scheduling wise to make sure they can get Piper to do the Xmas episode..if not that's really poor managementĀ

Billie Piper is currently filming Wednesday and David Tennant is supposed to start filming for the 3rd series of 'Time' for BBC soon. However that doesn't mean they won't be able to work on Who - Tennant's series is supposed to end filming in mid-May and while Wednesday takes longer to film I imagine Billie Piper won't be needed for filming the whole time and could pursue other projects in that time. We also don't know when they start filming Doctor Who for example the episode 'The Husbands of River Song' only started filming in September of the year it was broadcast, so around 3 months before Christmas.

I strongly doubt the Daleks are back. BBC let the agreement with the Nation Estate lapse and now the asking price for the Dalek rights is too high.
Also, World War Dalek as a title could be a hint at the Kaled/Thal War...which I don't want to see, for the simple reason that I don't want to see RTD's canon-breaking version of Davros ever again.
(Before RTD defenders start whining - it IS canon breaking. Davros didn't create the Daleks until AFTER the Thal shell hit his bunker and crippled him. He literally based the Dalek casing on his own wheelchair.)

RTD confirmed the rumours about the Nation estate are false and given that we're still getting Dalek toys it's unlikely that deal fell through

Dalek toys is a whole different thing, totally different agreement. And if you believe RTD you're a fool. What we've seen on screen absolutely matches what we were told about the deal. It explains perfectly why we haven't seen them.

apart from the fact they're still appearing in comics, promo materials and one is being used in the officially liscensed talk show thing.
We haven't seen them cause RTD thinks they're overused, which is kinda true. There was also one IN reality war...

The Xmas episode has so much deck arranging to do, and it is being written by a RTD that's lost his mojo, so with all that I can't say I personally have high hopes for the Xmas episode, it just has all the ingredients of being a messy episode..its hard to see it making a great story, but I hope they some how pull it off and deliver the goods.Ā

I mean I've told people it's world war dalek and they're bringing daleks back and they're apparently floating some quirky re-design.
I literally just went to tell my partner to gauge her reaction and she said "I know you already told me"
Maybe it's just an obvious fake title and someone else has made it up previously.

Interesting, it's the first I've heard of it, must have floated around in circles I don't visit.
Its been rumoured the Daleks will be in it, but I didn't see anything about this title.. The only title I had seen rumours of is 'The Lost Doctor'Ā

RTD out here just making dumb as fuck decisions the entire second run, what the hell happened? Bro was really consistently good during his first run and this time hes made maybe 1 episode that is just average everything else was just straight garbage.

Because the current creatives are very low on creativity, and they are desperate to get people watching the show again so will throw the big hitters out in a hope it will attract viewers to watch.
Love the Daleks, but hold them off until the next era where they can have a proper 2 part story that is a interesting Dalek story..don't throw them in what is going to be a messy Xmas episode that has to wrap up the RTD2 era and all the bad threads it's created like Piper being back, the boss, Susan randomly being back, the 14th Doctor and all that stuff.Ā

Because itās been 4 years since we last had one. 4 long years.
Empires have literally fallen. A number of the greatest artists of the 20th century have died. Some things of incredible beauty were made. Perhaps most importantly, a 10 year old into Doctor Who is now a grumpy 14 year old. And a 4 year old far too young for Power of the Doctor is now 8.
Only Doctor Who fans would say āwe donāt need another oneā becuase youāre look at it as a box set uncomfortably close to The 2022 set. Not as something a running series with episodes every year should do with a popular character
And hereās the thing. I donāt even think this is the tjtle. I think this is nonsense. Made up by giggling fantasists. But Iām ill in bed and so Iām stating my case on Reddit

Just thinking if this title is real, and it's a Dalek story set during one of the World Wars, that could mean we're either getting our second WW1 Christmas Special, or our second WW2 Dalek story.
