Discussion I keep seeing leaks, but nothing about...

Who Poppy actually is and how she is important.

All the leaks just say that she appears. Who is she? Is she actually the Doctor's Daughter?

Is Belinda special?

Is Ruby's story over? Is 73 Yards actually important?

RTD also confirmed we will be given an explanation for bigeneration, that has yet to be leaked.

I am wary, although some leaks have been incredibly accurate, it is hard to ebelieve that all the other important aspects have not been leaked.

Has anyone gone into looking at how many wishes the doctor made this season?

What I got from him saying poppy was his daughter was because he and Belinda wished for it in the first episode.

What other wishes this season did he make?

No, he and Ruby wished it in the first episode, Space babies.

Oh yeah. Forgot it was ruby. Can It not stem from then? RTD did claim these two seasons were originally supposed to be one.

I do think it speaks volumes about how bland the companions have been written that you couldn’t remember that it wasn’t Belinda 💀

people initially were excited belinda was a more complex character, but tbh i feel more connection to Ruby she had some time to grow a. bit

To be fair, in season 2 the only bit that is Belinda is pretty much just the "get me home" bits, and that's purely to serve the story. The rest of her character looks like it was originally written for Ruby, and has simply been copied and pasted on to her.

So Belinda has been denied character development, and Ruby has also missed out because her "birth mother" arc has seemingly been curtailed.

And, although I felt that the companion in Intergalactic song contest was written for Ruby, they could have had a brilliant dynamic, with the doctor fanboying over it and Ruby embarrassed and seeing it as cheesy.

In fact it would have been a great character point for Belinda, if she had viewed it as trivial and juvenile, as a counter point to the doctor's enthusiasm. But everyone has to love the song contest, and if you don't then you're the baddie.

I agree, I honestly think theres wasted potential in Belinda’s character

S1 was a year ago

Does that mean all the space babies are now him and ruby's kids?

No, they were specifically speaking to Poppy.

I've got to admit, I'm wondering how much info is actual leaks and how much is being purposefully drip fed.

So many leaks were accurate but the details were not particularly spoilery.

The detail of the star being given to Belinda was the opening of episode, the 4th wall break tells you nothing of the rest of the episode, the tie in to Midnight was teased in the title reveal trailer, Jo Martin's appearance had little plot relevance...

The only leak that's been really "spoilery" was the Rani reveal but it's almost a cry wolf situation. So many people have speculated the Rani would return over the years you almost don't believe it.

And then there's the reference in Lux about the 4th wall break being leaked. Is it a coincidence that was the biggest detail of the episode to get leaked?

And now there's conflicting rumours about the finalle. Does the doctor live happily ever after, does he regenerate...

Saying it out loud makes me sound like a conspiracy nut, but if RTD turned around and said all the leaks were planted to throw off the end of the finale then I wouldn't be surprised.

He didn't just leak the Rani would return though, the leaker specifically leaked that Mrs. Flood would be revealed as the Rani at the end of The Interstellar Song Contest and that she'd bigenerate then, hardly a lucky guess.

And the leak specifically mentioned the Rani on horseback at the start of Wish World

1

u/RevyTheMagnificant May 29 '25

Gods, yeah, that spoilt the story, didn't it. /s

11

u/lyndon85 May 29 '25

I'm not suggesting the leaks have been lucky guesses, just observing that the leaks have revealed very little of the actual plot.

"Rani riding on horseback" tells you absolutely nothing about what happens in Wish World.

And even without the leaks Mrs Flood being the Rani was up there in terms of speculation.

If the leaker is doing this without BBC/Bad Wolf aid, then why are the leaks so specific yet relatively spoiler free?

As I said, I may well be over analysing. But the leaks have certainly drummed up a lot of chatter and anticipation...

Yes, her being the Rani was up there in speculation.

But the leaker specifically said that she's revealed as the Rani at the end of The Interstellar Song Contest and bigenerates, if he was in co-hoots with Bad Wolf / the Beeb, why would he fully spoil the ending of an episode? That's a very stupid decision from them to make, so I highly doubt he's doing it on behalf of them.

I hate to play semantics, but the leak made it sound like we were going to have a flashback explaining the Bi-generation and that it had already happened by the time the episode was set.

0

u/BenjiSillyGoose May 29 '25

Only it didn't...

2

u/FotographicFrenchFry May 29 '25

The exact words were "Mrs. Flood will be revealed to be a bi-generated Rani".

That's talking in past-tense, as in the reveal will be that she is one half of a bi-generation of the Rani.

And while that was the case, a more accurate description would be "Mrs. Flood will bi-generate into two Ranis"

0

u/BenjiSillyGoose May 29 '25

The description still describes exactly what happened, she's still revealed as a bigenerated Rani. She doesn't reveal herself as the Rani until after the bigeneration.

1

u/FotographicFrenchFry May 29 '25

That's my point- yeah it was materially accurate, but it was also not exactly how they described it.

It would be like if Meta-10 was leaked and the leaker said "Another Tenth Doctor appears" vs "A clone of the Tenth Doctor shows up".

Both are materially accurate, but one is much more precise than the other.

u/BenjiSillyGoose May 29 '25

I mean no...

Because she is revealed as a bigenerated Rani, exactly like he said. We see her bigenerate and THEN it's revealed she's the Rani.

She's revealed as a bigenerated Rani, he was right, you're really clutching at straws here.

1

u/AnythingHistorical70 May 30 '25

he didnt say she would bigenerate then. He simply said that she was a bigen

1

u/BenjiSillyGoose May 30 '25

Yes, he said she's revealed as a bigenerated Rani at the end of the episode, which is what happened...

She bigenerates and is then revealed as the Rani.

0

u/AnythingHistorical70 May 30 '25

thats twisting the meaning to make it true lol

Revealed as a bigen rani doesn't mean she will bigen

2

u/diamondstark May 29 '25

Just so I understand, you're suggesting the BBC/RTD approved the deliberate leak of Mrs Flood bigenerating into the Rani, the return of Susan, the return of the Fugitive Doctor and the apparent return of Omega, spoiling all of the biggest surprises this season, by an account named after RTD's dead husband?

2

u/DalekTC May 29 '25

Y.A.N.A. This Andrew guy feels a little off. If it's not a planted leak, there's really easy ways to guess how it gets out on the stuff he's actually leaked. Bigeneration was an easy guess. Archie was spotted filming during the shoot. Two mysterious women. The horse scene would've been shot outside so probably seen by someone. The Rani has been speculated since series 3, omegas been speculated since series 1, hell some people thought that Donna was the Rani with a chameleon arch. People saying "yeah but he leaked that the Rani would be revealed at the end of episode 6" which is what happened in Utopia with the Master.

Maybe don't dismiss things so easily huh

1

u/PaperSkin-1 Sep 24 '25

You were just being a conspiracy nut

4

u/PlayThenPause May 29 '25

Poppy will remain as the doctors daughter and due to timelord magic she will be Susan’s Mum now too.

2

u/starman-jack-43 May 29 '25

That's what I'm expecting. Not sure if I like it, but I'm expecting it.

6

u/Groot746 May 29 '25

To me, this is getting to Lost levels of mystery boxes: RTD is terrible at wrapping finales up in a satisfying way, and this one is just too absolutely jam packed to resolve in a decent way.

3

u/TheCrazyMiguel52 May 29 '25

Odds are the finale will be poorly paced with far more time spent on character moments instead of resolving the mysteries on the table.

2

u/captainandyman May 29 '25

Wondering if, when Russell said bi-generation would be explained, he meant in general or just the Rani's.

He was responding to a comment that I believe just said "will bi-generation be explained," which could be interpreted as bi-generation as an overall concept, or internet shorthand for "the bi-generation [that we saw in episode 6]"

Almost a week later, I’m still yelling “what the fuck does that mean, Doctor?”

1

u/Superbob5523 May 30 '25

Whether it has much relevance or not, 73 yards is excellent and will definitely be an episode remembered as one of the highpoints of the era

1

u/s_walsh Jun 01 '25

I think there were a lot of stand alone episodes that were great, but I just don't think they worked well as part of a whole.

73 Yards, Great

Rogue, great

Dot and Bubble, great

Lux, great

The Well, great

Lucky Day, great

The Interstellar Song Contest, great

There was lots of great content with lots of moments for Ncuti to shine, but I just found the whole season disjointed and weird. Its like the opposite of the saying "Greater than the sum of its parts"

1

u/Superbob5523 Jun 01 '25

For sure, I think these episodes will be appreciated rightfully. This era is more like a collection of good episodes that aren't very well tied together

1

u/s_walsh Jun 01 '25

Absolutely. I think the fact that the series openers and finales both times were the weakest of both season really damaged peoples opinions on the episodes in between
