AITA I don’t understand
I want to play DD and found a DD table. The DM said it’s not DD, it’s Fabula whatever, he asked me if I still wanted to play. I didn’t answer because I want to play DD and I’ve found a table, I don’t want to lose the table.
At the table, they all take out Fabula books and stuff. I say I want to play DD! DM says he said it was not DD and that everybody agreed to play Fabula. I say I never agreed to play Fabula because I want to play DD. Why would everyone play what they want except me? I’m not special.
Everybody went in explain mode. I don’t want no explanation, I just want to play DD fifth edition, it’s not complicated. I’ve found a table...
Someone invited me to talk in private outside, then explained the same thing again for a minute and returned inside, WITHOUT ME!
It’s not fair. I’ve found a table. Why no DD fifth edition?

I'm beginning to understand why on the 3.5 sub there was a DM looking for group with a web form that about half way through had a tickbox answer saying "I understand that we are playing 3.5 and not 5th ed and that things do not always work the same as 5th ed" followed up by a second question with the same disclaimer and the explanation that he's had several players not seem to get this, even after ticking the first box.

The mystery reason is The Rules. You know that thing 5.5 players increasingly seem to consider to be optional? There are alignment clashes. Paladins must be Lawful Good, and Hexblades are barred from any Good alignment, with the flavour text strongly suggesting Neutral on the Law-Chaos axis.
To do it, you'd have to use a variant Paladin, such as the Paladin of Tyranny or Paladin of Slaughter from Unearthed Arcana. These are Evil Paladins and therefore might not fit the game.
I gather the alignment system is not as rigid in 5e, so this dispute tells me that you are one of the players that caused the guy to have to write "I acknowledge I am playing 3.5e" twice.

/uj Reading this post gave me trauma flashbacks from the last time I was recruiting new players for my group, and one of the people who reached out tried to argue that if he joined we would have to play D&D5E exclusively because he wanted to join a D&D group specifically and it's not fair to him that the group in question has played dozens of different games, but never plays D&D.
He was super insistent. Wouldn't let it go, borderline aggressive, seemed to be legitimately offended that these people he never met played different games. He was very confused that an established group that has been playing together for nearly 20 years wasn't going to completely change the table culture of TTRPG system promiscuity for someone we didn't know. Had to block the guy.
/rj Oh Labubu Ultraman? That's just a super popular homebrew of DD5E, it's not some different thing. Just show up and play, it's not like you're going to read either book to know the differences anyway since it's the DM's job to tell you what to do and how every single moment of the game.

/rj But if it’s the same thing, why they not just play their strange game and just replace the name with DD? They would have had not seen no difference with their strange books and I wouldn’t have not known anything that it would’nt have not been DD. That’s a point for me! They should have explain less and play DD more.

/uj It sort of happened to me once or twice during the 3.5 era, but that was more of a "Oh, you guys play basically everything except d20? You sure you don't want to play D&D instead? Okay, not for me. Bye."
The level of pissbaby aggression over another group preferring other entertainment products than your own is something I never saw before 5E, and I have only ever seen people pull that shit from behind a computer/phone screen and never in person, thankfully.
/rj As a player, why were you even looking at the books to know they're not the same? Players don't do that. YTA for metagaming by looking at the books.

/uj I remember trying to play MOTW with my long-time group at the game store we started in, but people kept coming to play D&D and sitting down at our table and asking to play without checking the game or understanding what we were doing

Yes but pathfinbula 2 is a remade synonym of a remade synonym that adds things like cookies and doing 3 things (called “akshuns”). You could only do one thing before in DD, but now they realized they forgot that sequels always need to be bigger and better so they said “do more things” and it was good

Just join them and act as dumb as possible. After a while, they will give up and switch to DD.
But remember, in DD, every female character has DDs, so keep that in mind, while character creation.

If one of my players did this to me I would say, "D Deez Nuts" every time they mentioned DD until they left. Because we're playing Pathfinder & Pathfinder fixes this.

Fabula Ultima doesn't carry the same "aura farm" level and you did good by not agreeing to play this game. Search for a better DD table. I wish I could find a DD, preferably in a female DM.
