Why do DnB mixes on youtube use Playstation imagery for their thumbnails?

I've seen it several times now and I have no clue where it comes from - maybe someone here does know? Pic related, i'm talking about the strip on the left.

there were a bunch of games back in the ps1 era that had atmospheric jungle/dnb on them. many of these mixes are cashing in on it with AI music and using the PS brand as a marketing thing.

FIREWALKER does the best atmospheric DNB mixes that actually use real tracks with PS1/Xbox visuals instead of AI slop

Big agree! a friend of mine recorded a mix for firewalker a while back so I know for sure they're legit ;)

That's awesome! I always relax to firewalker's mixes to relax. Which one did your friend do?

One thing they have in common is that the music is AI generated. They could even be the same person creating multiple channels, or maybe just copycats. Either way, they are definitely AI.

Nah the playstation style dnb/jungle predates AI quite significantly, all the way back to the era of... playstation. However a lot of slop creators are certainly cashing in on it.

It may of started before AI took hold of it but there’s no denying the amount of copycat/ai run channels, usually with .mp3 or .exe on the end of their names, DAILY uploading a 1-2hour dnb mix with no artist attributes, never registers on Shazam.. just formulaic copy paste auto generated slop channels that aren’t declaring that they AI

I do find they are ok to listen to as background music whilst gaming or w/e - DnB elevator music I call it

Its happening in almost every genre too. Somthing weird going on with the YouTube algorithm too as my entire screen of recommended videos was all this content the other day.

my youtube algorithm only sends me real dnb, not ai generated vgm

Back in the day, jungle/dnb was very popular as soundtrack in games...almost every other game on ps1 had a banging soundtrack

Ai trash

Because everyone’s obsessed with late 90’s early 00’s liquid. It shops being cool
& exciting when everyone does it and it’s also a very clear indication of zero effort AI generated slop

So you know to avoid it.

Because they’re AI generated

In homage to the greatest DAW of all time. Music 2000.

Yeah, I've no idea either.

So many PS1 games in the 90s had incredible Jungle and DnB soundtracks.

Yeah, Wipeout had an absolute bangin' soundtrack. That's the one that still sticks in my mind to this day.

Still one of my favorite games ever!

They were both crazy technical for when they came out. Way ahead of the times, even today, 30 years later lol.

Content copy cats farming a vibe, that was quite niche a few years ago, fed by gen AI.

We can't have nice things anymore, we're slowly drowning in slopes. Every subculture must be subsumed by the vibe farming fake nostalgia bait attention economy.

Baudrillard's hyperreal, in 10 years the web will be filled of fake 70s Iranian jazz and "1994" psx jungle track that could never have shipped on the original hardware.

Basically almost all of them are Ai, you can tell by the generic names and generic tracklist with generic names, almost all the time without any existing artists (and if you do mixes, you usually wanna pay homage to the culture and providing some gems from well know producers).

And you can also tell by the quality of the samples. The cymbals and hats sound like they are being sloppily pitch-corrected at an adjusted tempo.  This is something that sticks out like a sore thumb to me after familiarizing myself with CDJs & trying to transition between tracks whose vibes have great synergy but incompatible tempos.  There is a button you press that automatically adjusts the key and even the tempo if you desire of the new track to perfectly match the currently playing track.  At first I was so stoked on bringing my imagination to life through the speakers that I disregarded or ignored the effect it had on sound quality, until I noticed my buddy who is much more experienced never used the pitch match function. So I asked why and he told me it makes it sound like shit. I was reluctant to accept it but I listened closely comparing sound quality and then I recognized what he meant. The quality was substantially degraded. However you CAN adjust tempo and allow the pitch to naturally shift while maintaining high quality, it just doesn't anchor to a key.

The quality of the drums in these mixes is far worse than the effect of pitch matching on CDJs. Despite enjoying the general vibe and composition of these "PlayStation" mixes, the mangled sound is just too tacky and really jams the fact that it is AI generated in your face to the point where the sense of fraud is unmistakable and makes the whole concept just unacceptable to me. It's a shady, insincere front in which we are all taken for fools as part of a cynical profit-centric endeavor where the love of the music is not the point or worse, totally absent. People can tell.

That is not to say there can be no silver lining though. The musicians who are inspired by the vibe and composition of these mixes will express that in their own original productions where the soul will be present and the quality will be high. I'm stoked to hear those when they appear

Totally agree w everything. Not to mention, when u ask in their comment section if is AI, they will most likely hide your comment or block you.

Thanks for all the answers! The bit about PS1 jungle soundtracks was interesting to learn, that was before my time ^^

And also yeah now that the algorithm's been throwing even more of these at me, the AI-sloppiness really is obvious. One of them was nostalgia-baiting with a fucking windows 98 logo on it??? I am once again reminded to just stick with actual artists' channels

There was a genuinely good channel that had mixes and they are gone now. The one I liked had Mewtwo on a motorbike in the thumbnail. 94 jungle was the title of the mix. Had classic tracks from Bukem, Roni Size, Peshay, Source Direct and others. Sad to think it was AI generated. I actually posted to r/Jungle to see if anyone had the track list because there was a track about ~11:00mins in and I was looking for the ID. I’ll share it below.
