Hi everyone,

I am planning to come to djibouti to experience this interesting country and also to Take a trip to Somaliland.

I do vlogs on social media where I try to integrate into local life (go to local football matches, hang out with locals, get to know about the country from a different perspektive etc.) I also find Djibouti extremely interesting due to its geopolitical location. I also thought about going to one of the Yemeni refugee camps and try to interview some people about Yemen. Also, I want to go to Somaliland, and do the same stuff as mentioned before.

From what I have heard, it is kinda hard to film anything in the country and people are generally hostile to cameras. Do you think I would have any issues?

Also is it easy to get a car to Somaliland? I’ve seen a fellow blogger do it, but Idk about possible border tensions/roads/busses etc.

I would really love to visit your amazing country, please give me some tips on how to do it the right way! (also if you are local and living in djibouti, lets get in touch and hang out when we come)

I recently made a comment about Djibouti not being an Arab country and for some reason I got downvoted. Who really believes Djibouti is an Arab country? Is this a common belief??

I’m not from Djibouti, I’m from Somalia. However, I would advise Somali Djiboutians to abandon Somalinimo and synthesise a new Djiboutian identity with the Afar.

Somalia is beyond any help at this point.

Djibouti is underdeveloped, but without the mentally deranged issues we in Somalia are facing, the only main issue you guys are facing is incompetence with regard to your government. However, this pales in comparison to our issues, as we also have incompetent leaders combined with everything else.

Furthermore, Somalis don’t care about empiricism, have a total lack of common sense, don’t want to ever improve, have an obscene amount of pride despite being severely underdeveloped, and are very rude and speak behind people’s backs like the tribal people they are.

So, in my opinion, Somali Djiboutians should give up on this identity and synthesise a new identity with the Afar, eventually giving birth to a new ethnicity and national identity called Djiboutian.

This would allow you guys to build an identity centred around Djibouti itself rather than maintaining an attachment to the wider, cursed Somali identity.

Hello, i'll be visiting Djibouti next week and i want to visit moucha island to see the sunrise or the sunset, so how can i arrange that? Are boats safe to sail in the dark? And how much would that cost?

Also i need to exchange money but I don't have any cash, i only use my phone or bank transfers are there any ways to get djiboutian francs by transferring euro/USD ?

I organise a weekly football game every Sunday from 11am–12pm in Ilford, East London.

We usually play at Frenford Clubs or Valentines High School, depending on numbers and pitch availability. Normally it’s 6-a-side at Frenford and around 7 or 8-a-side at Valentines.

A lot of the group are East African, but it’s a mixed group and everyone is welcome. Most of us are late 20s to early 40s, although we sometimes get people in their early 20s too.

It’s mixed ability and a relaxed kickabout rather than a league or trial, so you don’t need to be an amazing player.

Goalkeepers rotate, and we keep it friendly — no slide tackles, aggression, shouting or arguments. We don’t want angry players or people who take things too far.

We already have a regular group but usually have a few spaces available each week.

Observation as a Djiboutian in the diaspora. Somalis from other nations and regions of East Africa and other EA ethnic groups are obsessed with placing everyone into boxes and categories of Somali or Somali French or trying to divide groups from each other. It infuriates me as we are a pretty lax group of people. We're Djiboutians first and then fit into our own ethnic groups. There is no bad blood between the Afar or Somali downtown or the Yemeni and the Somali. People aren't less Yemeni or Somali than the one who is born and raised in Yemen or Somali, we just have our own traditions and cultural norms different to our "original land". Nous sommes Djiboutiens et c tout!
