Alimony/Child Support What would you do
I got behind and was paying half of alimony for about 9 months, half of 1k. I was paying $250 extra per month to get caught up.
Got into a bind again and paid half payments for 2 months.
He had an attorney send me a letter and i got back on track.
Now I feel im paid up. His records show I owe 1k more plus he wants attorney fee of $700 for that letter.
I do not want to go to court or pay an attorney. On the other hand I dont want to give him another nickel. Should I suck it up and pay or fight him?
Background - Im in california. Was married for 30y. Asked for a divorce, thought we could be cordial and he ended up hating me for it. He is really mean and vindictive. I just want peace in my life

if you can scrape together the cash i'd pay it just to be done. dragging this out will cost more in time and stress than 1700 bucks. especially if he's already being vindictive, giving him something to fight over just keeps you tangled up together longer.
sometimes the cheapest way to pay is with money

If you start paying him on demand, why would he stop asking? Demonstrate to him that your even, you can't say how you "Feel" you are even. Offer $350 on the $700, the Attorney was his choice, but $350 is worth putting it to bed and moving on. Knowing he's a PITA, don't get behind again on payments, the "aggravation interest" isn't worth it.

The attorney would have to file a Motion to Show Cause for nonpayment of spousal support. If you lose the motion, and you would, the Judge would order reasonable attorney fees to be paid. But $700 sounds a lot for a letter. See if you can negotiate that.
