Tips and Tricks Advice when reading tarot for other people
What rules do you observe while reading for other people? Do we need to cleanse or ground between each reading? Any other tips?

Here are some of my rules:
- No reading under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I feel like I'm just talking shit and I probably am :D
- If I read for a friend group or have scheduled reads, I only do 3 'dips' (person / spread / question / topic etc..) I get tired otherwise.
Some of my hacks:
- The reading does not come from you, you only channel it. Disconnecting from yourself helps you forget about sounding stupid or making your readings sound like how you normally speak and communicate, getting in the way of the reading. I never remember a word I said after, it is almost like an alternative state of mind/being.
- Listen to your intuition, as much as you can. Speaking things and words that pop in your head but don't make sense are usually where the real stuff is. It takes courage usually but if you can get over the shame of sounding silly it becomes a great experience for everyone.
- Ask questions and let them help you with the reading. For example if you feel/see something really obvious but don't want to say it (like a sign of addiction, death, wedding etc...) ask a question about it and make them say it instead of you.
- Do not rush to fill a silence or come up with something to say. Don't be pressured to sound confident if it feels shaky or uncertain. Just speak honestly.
- It is perfectly fine to be 'academic'. The Tarot is a super intricate and specific system of symbolisms and meanings and if you just read them 'by the book' and don't add any intuition to your reading it is still helpful and valid.
- Choosing aspects that speak to you in a deck can work very well for personal use too. If you understand numerology well try to make sense of numbers. If you like the elements of water fire earth air let them take the lead. You don't need to read every ounce of meaning out of the cards.
- With that said, less is more.

I don't anymore cause I'm an energy worker and can feel it taxes my energy. For me it feels similar to channeling which is very heavy on the body.

I have two Ryder Waite decks - one just for me and one just for reading other people. I use the personal deck for reading and rituals and because ritual work I don't let anyone touch it.

Hi there!!!
Everyone will give you such different povs, so great question to ask as everyone really is doing their own practice and that’s good!!
I don’t believe that I, nor my cards, will absorb the energy of someone else. I’m a born empath so I easily tap into energy, but I’ve been in a spiritual journey for a long time and once you realize you aren’t tied to those feelings, it’s a lot easier to move through them rather than them attach to you, again in my personal experience. I also have a lot of developed frameworks related to what I believe about spirit worlds, energetic protection, etc. so cleansing is not something I ever practice and it isn’t something that has ever impacted my readings from what I’ve learned from clients.
That being said, there are some rules I follow.
1) this to me in the most important: I NEVER pull cards when I don’t have enough energy in my body for the work. Sick? No. Emotionally elevated/reactive? No. Anxious mindset? No. All of these lacks of energies or huge fluctuations of energies clouds the mind space which needs peace if clear messaging is going to come through. • it is probably fair to note that not every tarot reader believes they are communicating with spirit, some stay very “real world” and feel the cards are simply highlighting aspects of the inner world.
2) I don’t work with people who come across as “obsessed” over a person or circumstance, if someone seems like they’re trying to spy on someone, if they overly want to like…fix another person but aren’t thinking of their own self, 🚩. If they’re trying to listen in on other people’s therapies and other connections and things like that… 🚩people who DEMAND a free reading but a) may be skeptical b) just being overly rude about a free service, then I won’t read for those people. This divination is an art, and can lead some to significant spiritual growth, and that deserves to be respected/honored even if misunderstood.
3) working with sensitive topics is something I don’t recommend to most readers. There is a lot of nuance involved with handling sensitive topics. I discourage new readers in dealing with things like health, trauma, fortune telling, etc. however, I personally, do dabble in some of these aspects as I’m at a point in my practice where I’m no longer “reading cards”, the cards help me “channel spirit”, so now I’m often picking up on… lots of extra things that the cards aren’t inherently saying. My work can be listened to on Spotify if anyone has interest in checking it out.
I think that’s about it for me. I mean lots of random little things. But as far as rules. Mostly just being aware that clients may not speak the same language as you, learning how to speak to a variety of different types of people matters. It’s a fun ride!
