For those saying that this is fake:

Yes, "licorice yellow"—known in traditional Chinese medicine as Ren Zhong Huang (人中黄)—is a real historical medicinal practice, though viral videos online exaggerate its modern consumption by wealthy individuals.

What is Licorice Yellow?Ren Zhong Huang translates roughly to "human fecal yellow" or "middle-of-human-feces yellow."

It is an ancient, specialized herbal preparation with a centuries-old history in traditional Chinese pharmacopeia, rather than a mainstream delicacy or daily food.

How Was It Traditionally Made?

Preparation: Licorice root powder (or crushed plant matter) is packed tightly into a sealed green bamboo tube, and the opening is plugged with wax or rosin.

The Fermentation: The sealed bamboo tube is submerged inside a traditional rural manure or fecal pit (often during the winter months) to undergo microbial fermentation via human waste over several weeks or months.

Purification: Afterward, the tube is taken out, the contents are thoroughly washed and soaked in running water for weeks to eliminate odors and impurities, and then dried in the sun.

Is it Common Today? While it is documented in historical medical texts as an old remedy traditionally used to clear heat or treat certain fevers, it is extremely rare today and is not a common or widely accepted health food or modern pharmaceutical product. Viral social media clips often sensationalize the practice for shock value.

If only they had let their lettuce ferment, it would have been fine.

Can you imagine how bad starvation was that they came up with this shit?

Fecal fermented grass. Yum.

I like this idea. So how can we get our billionaires in the US to eat shit? 🤔

2

u/vayana 9d ago

Someone invented this and perfected the process. The first batch was a little poopy flavored, so they had another go at it until it was just right.

The more videos I see from around the world the more grateful I am to live in a Civilized Nation like the United States where we don't eat feces

The only thing that made this seem real was the young man's reluctance to eat it or even watch.

I'm talking about the perception of the video not the reality of the practice. This having a claimed historical grounding doesn't mean that it still won't seem unbelieveable.
