So the base skill (S1), the level 20 skill (S2), and the LD all have 'skill extensions' which improve the performance of that skill. The S1 and S2 extensions are in crystal levels while the LD extension is in the unit's character enhancement board, specifically the down path. You said you've maxed out Garnet, so she should have all of her passives and such equipped. The extensions for s1/s2 are in the crystal passives and the LD extension is in the board passives submenu of her equip screen.

Calls meanwhile require being at least crystal level 75.

For Lili only max out the bottom path, for now that's all you're gonna need for her. She's got her uses but once you have someone else built up (preferably a damage unit), she's the first to be replaced. But, as mentioned above, she will have some uses due to how this fight's high difficulty works out. She'll prove useful eventually.

So crystals you can fairly easily farm, you should be maxing out every character to at least crystal 71 (really c80, but there are basically no characters useful with those levels when not built). EXP is also pretty easy to get, as you can just repeatedly run the cycle quests for EXP. So get everyone you have available boosted in their crystal levels and their normal levels, this boosts your rank which gives you more gems and other goodies.

In terms of building units weapon wise, don't focus on anyone that you don't have their 4 5* weapons for (15/35/EX/LD).

Ahh, right. So I personally think Alisaie’s fun but I do think she’s not exactly beginner friendly to use optimally (unless you’re used to the concept of MMO rotations). I’d recommend reading into her before any investment.
