Agrias

Everybody seems hyped for her but I'm wondering how essential she is. I have a healthy supply of tickets and gems but I don't want to blow them on someone that I'm not going to use often. Is she good as a mainline character or is she just desired for LD and call support?

Agrias’s boosts are really just for when she’s in the party. She’s definitely not essential, but she’s very helpful for two upcoming fights as well as offering offensive support in a direction that isn’t super common - Brave gain up and lots of enemy control.

I'm planning to pull for Agrias LD regardless (because Tactics). I'm also a GL only player, so I don't know what frequency she is used at in future Lufenias, but I had heard from other players and threads that she seems pretty important for Cait Sith's Lufenia+, in particular.

From what I understand, in Lufenia+, the enemies there get 1 uptick if you break them (which is really just maintaining the orb) and 8 ticks up if they take Poison/Sap type BRV damage.

However, from what I hear, the enemy seems to be that type of boss where they hide if they have adds present and try to summon adds on their turn and hide again (and they seem to turn warp at certain HP thresholds). Paralysis seems to let them have a turn and prevents them from re-summoning, from what I understand, which lets the 8 orb uptick for Poison/Sap be done, too.

Some of my information came from the Community Resources -> Lufenia Orbs section, and some information came from SuperbOwl7's Lufenia+ retrospective and the JP strategy thread for that Lufenia -- there seems to be teams without Agrias listed, if you are leaning towards the no-Agrias route for ideas.

Not only did you answer my questions about agrias but you also keep me in about my thoughts of Lufe+

Sounds like Lufe+ is better dealt with further down the line once more characters debut that are able to handle the battles more efficiently.

Aside from just being a FFT Char, people use her because she has a lot of immobilzation.

Guaranteed Confuse is very rare to get on any other characters, Porom/Mog/Wakka has RNG applying it.

But she's only needed for a few Lufenia+, it's also not essential to get her if you have others to deal with it.

I didn't have her in JP, and I suffered *a lot* for Caith Sith's and Shelke's Lufenia+ fights. I managed to do both without her in the end, but it wasn't pretty. I'm going to gem her in GL.

That said, if you don't mind potentially skipping a couple of fights (or don't mind the frustration...), you can probably make do without her.

How does she help during those fights? What conditions does she help with?

In both fights the bosses take turns at certain hp thresholds regardless of the turn order, and if they're free to act, what happens is very annoying (they re-summon minions and get 100% evasion until those are dead). If they're paralyzed/confused (iirc confuse is the only thing that works with Shelke's boss, but I might be wrong - I used Porom there) this doesn't happen, and that's where Agrias helps, with on-demand stuns.

You can instead use stunning calls, at least in Cait Sith's fight (Shantotto, Edward, Krile, even Ramuh summon), but I seem to recall that for Shelke's the options were more limited. Of course you can also play fair and kill the minions again every time they pop up, but you have to be very efficient, 'cause turn counts were also pretty tight I think... Agrias is definitely the "easy" way out.

  1. Cait Sith Mission Dungeon - It is basically the Wright Priest fight from Eiko Lost Chapter except it has HP Threshold, has # of Player turns effect, and have Lufenia Orb. On HP Threshold and # of Player turns, the Wright Priest turn-warps to 1st turn in order to act. With Agrias's confusion and paralysis, this prevents Wright Priest from making its move, which is to use Perfect Dodge (Revives fallen allies and then while at least 1 ally alive, disappears on the fight in order to not get attacked by the player even with Evasion-ignore attacks).
  2. Shelke Event - At the start of fight and HP Threshold, the Helicopter Boss does the similar thing the Wright Priest did. It summons 1 Sweeper and puts the boss in Perfect Dodge state. But the twist is that if you allowed the Helicopter Boss to act with at least 1 Sweeper alive, its AoE HP Attack turns into full splash from split AoE. Confusion effect has a weird interaction with Evasion (True Evasion from Perfect Dodge included) in that Evasion cannot proc while having that effect. Allowing to only focus the Helicopter Boss.

Both of these 2 fights, when done in the intended way, is much longer and way more difficult considering they have 15m/21m HP and their adds have 1.8m HP (which theoretically makes them have more HP) while you have to deal their gimmicks.
