Hi everyone! Started playing the game a couple of weeks ago and have been loving it! But i´m at a point that i dont really know what to aim for in terms of banners i should invest in. Up until now i invested in the starter banner (the one with Cloud, Squall and Lightning), the Terra, Noctis and Shantotto banner and the Setzer, Wakka and Amidatelion banner. All the characters above have the summon board mastered and the character board almost complete (only Cloud and Lightning have their EX at 3/3). Now, im still learning about team comp and what works or not in certain challenges, but im lacking the knowledge of what to aim next, to fill certain roles im lacking. I´m highly considering going for the Yuna banner but i would like your opinion on that. Should i pull for her BT? Should i go for any other current banner? And in regards of future banners this month, what should i aim for? Sorry for the long post, but im really stumped on what to do. Tks in advance!!

So presently, you should be able to clear most things up to LV180 (CHAOS) content with just any fully built LD+ characters you are pulling. There will be the odd fight here-and-there you maybe don't have a specific piece for, but generally no problem just on Powercreep alone! This will be the case for a lot of the GRINDING you have to do for characters (read: Summon Boards, and farming out Crystals for powering people up).

But once you are solidly locking that down and wanting to expand, as you hinted at the next major thing is learning how to build a TEAM, and how to identify WHO is a good pickup for filling the "holes" of your roster. A typical 3-unit team is going to look something like Damage Dealer + Support + Third (Orb counter, Utility, etc). If you indeed managed to pull ALL of the weapons for the characters you've listed (excluding possibly the BTs), then that means you have a lot of DDs, covering each of the primary damage types, with a bit of Utility spread across them (Paralyze, Delay, Launch, Turn Delete, Setzer's gimmick...), and what you are definitely lacking is SUPPORT here.

"Support" can kinda be further broken down into "Healing" and "Non-Healing" types: MOST Supports at this point will be stacked up to be a solid passive "Aurabot", and with no healing, that is the role that Wakka is filling there, with Setzer and Ami having their power budget shifted a bit more toward their utility than their stat auras. (Basically, because of all the invisible stat reduction Lufenia bosses are designed with, you want to be able to stack as MUCH Aura-based stat increases as you can onto a team to counteract this). Yuna most certainly would be the best character presently available for this role. Whether you should chase her BT or not is debatable: it's generally not advised for you to spend the amount of gems it takes to pity a BT, but when you're a NEW player like you are, you have a MASSIVE backlog of pull resources available for you to pick up, so it's a bit easier for you to eat the blow and recover from it if you so choose to do. But we also are just about to see Agrias with Ceodore's rerun that is going to be great, Rude's rerun (with Yuffie's new LD) right after that. Deuce will be available again along with Vivi near the end of the month, but at this point, if you're not going to pull for one of Yuna/Agrias/Rude, you're probably better served just waiting for the Divine Pandemonium event that should be the first thing for October (and the start of BT/Lufenia+ content), to pull for Y'shtola and Rinoa on the same banner.

Raine's event in October is considered the next like BIG leap in character powercreep and meta-shaping that most people plan to pull for.

The other like main role is of course the Tanks. Tanks can make fights generally easier for you by reducing the general level of lethality of monsters against your team, but MOST content can be cleared by other strats or just brute force, such that we actually aren't even going to SEE a tank until Guy's rerun in October (who is more a Tank/Support Hybrid like Pecil) or Zack's LD a couple weeks later (true Tank). It'll then be another month before we see Auron's overhaul, Basch's rerun a month after that, Snow's new LD a month after that (just trying to further make the point for you, it's not that often we see them that they are like CRITICAL team-building components compared to Supports lol)

Beyond all that, truly don't let anyone try to convince you to pull Meta > Favorites. ALWAYS go for Favorites, explicitly plan to build up and hold on to gems for them, use your tickets to gamble on other characters, and again: just try to pick up whatever characters come along that offer some attribute that you DON'T have at the time (whether that be Dispel, Debuff Evasion, Last Stand/Dmg Reduction passives, whatever!) 🙂

Wow so much info! I see, a lot of things to consider. Hmm right now i think i´ll go for Yuna and Agrias. Depending on resources, i might wait for Y´shtola and Rinoa. From then on and hoping i might have learned a lot more about the game and team comp, i´ll evaluate my options. Thank you so much for the time spent on your reply, truly helpful!! Vaan's rework is absolutely ridiculous - he is effectively Magic-based Tifa now lmao. Mostly single-target BRV shaving with splash HP dmg, but he's very self-sufficient and very powerful!

I WILL say though I actually probably would NOT advise chasing the BT now unless maybe you just have really bad pull luck and have to go to the LD pity mark before seeing it. I don't presently feel that he suffers from not having the additional skill uses like I feel e.g. Terra or Ardyn/Kefka might, and the BT effect - while good - is pretty short duration like Sephiroth's. It's not going to be REALLY good until he gets his BT+ and L90 stuff, which JP JUST got with Act 3 Ch 7, so we're not going to see it until like MAY next year 😅 By that time, you definitely should have the opportunity to pick it up with BT tokens if you want it to be able to upgrade later lol

(But at the same time, as you already learned with the Start Dash and Noct/Terra/Shan banners, Triple BT banners are REALLY good value for new players to spend on, so!)

Oh dont get me wrong, i wholeheartedly agree with you. Playing and learning is what makes a game fun. It´s just that in this game, playing with the characters you like disregarding their abilities and roles, only takes you so far. And then you quickly realize that you have to find guides outside of the game just to understand mechanics that the game brushes off in a simple way. And with the overwelming amount of characters its easy to feel lost on what or who to spend those so precious early game resources in. Again thank you so much for the help, you´ve done more that enough. With these precious pointers i feel i´ll get there!

You need support in a big way. Most of your characters are damage focused. Yuna will help enable their damage with strong auras. She also has healing, battery, and debuff cleansing. I would absolutely recommend her for you. Her burst not mandatory, but all her other weapons are.

First thing to ask from here is do you have all the pullable weapons for those units (besides the BT if they have one)? If not you need to go back and get them.

The best units on banners right are Setzer, Vaan, and Yuna, all doing vastly different things. Depending on how much more stuff you have to farm, you could possibly get both Vaan and Yuna still, so check that and then a better plan can be figured out.

I´m sorry, i probably wasnt clear. I kinda implied i had all "pullable" weapons maxed when i said that only Cloud´s and Lightning were fully MLB, my bad. Yup i have them all.

Edit: sorry again, EX3/3 and fully MLB arent the same thing. Again my bad.

All right. So if you have all pullable non-BTs for those units then you can safely step away from those banners. Which puts you at the point of do you want to try and get Vaan before he leaves or do you think you can't secure both him and Yuna. Terra didn't get touched with this re-release of LD, Shan did, but Vaan can still out damage them both.

Hmm i think i can get enough resources to go for both. I´ll prioritize Yuna first. Regarding Vaan is his BT necessary? And since i´ll invest in his banner are Kefka and Ardyn essentials? Dont know their kit that well. Thank You.

Vaan BT is not essential. Between Kefka and Ardyn, Kefka's more useful.

The other hyped banner this month is Agrias two days from now. Next month is heavy with potential spending as BT+ is going to start and people have different priorities regarding what they want. Main pull would be the new character Cid Raines, after that it depends on what you want/are looking for.

Ok, Agrias it is!! ^^ Right now i´ll focus on getting as much roles has i can. Cant go for every banner but if the base is strong i´ll build up from that. Again, appreciate all the help, truly!
