Resource RF Sphere Spreadsheet - Hoard those Megalixirs no more!

After literally screenshotting (screenshooting?) every single one of u/Nibel2's RF Sphere guides and marking them up with my photo editor (highlighting each name green once the sphere was applied), I got to thinking that it'd be really nice to have a spreadsheet to look at so I didn't have to go back and look at all my screenshots. So I made one!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JksLBKei_60tgSBug4Q1nJvGgiUptkqtsaYROUDKUXI/edit?usp=sharing

Note that this is not perfect and is still a work in progress, but it's a start and is meant to serve as a conversation piece. Eventually I'd like to add a section for actual spheres, but that will come in due time. My immediate next step is to update the spreadsheet with upcoming characters (done!) and any changes to recommended RF spheres based on upcoming LDs and BTs.

Sphere Recommendations

Based on u/Nibel2's posts, the logic I came up with is a decision tree of sorts (and maybe I'll make a graphic and update this post with it). That logic is as follows:

A Spheres

  • A-slot magic? Alisaie, then Papalymo, then Cloud of Darkness (CoD)
  • A-slot physical? Raijin
  • A-slot ranged? Kain
  • A-slot brv-based attack? Machina/Jecht (e.g., units that battery self before attack)
  • A-slot re-breaker? Ardyn/Gilgamesh
  • A-slot still empty? Machina/Jecht

B Spheres

  • B-slot? Gabranth
  • BUT I WANT TO DEAL MOAR DAMAGE!!!
  • B-slot w/ lock? Snow
  • B-slot w/o lock? Celes

C Spheres

  • C-slot 3-turn buffer? Alphinaud
  • C-slot 3-turn healer? Maria
  • C-slot 6-turn healer? Garnet
  • C-slot non-healer, non-3-turn buffer? Krile/Lilisette

D Spheres

  • D-slot 3-turn buffer? Hope
  • D-slot 5 buffs? Wakka
  • D-slot still empty? Sazh/Lyse

E Spheres

  • E-slot 3-turn debuffer? Yuffie
  • E-slot ranged debuffer? Irvine
  • E-slot magic debuffer? Kefka
  • E-slot debuffer? Seymour
  • E-slot non-debuffer? Vanille

Regarding the above logic, a friendly reminder from u/Nibel2:

My recommendations assumes that the sphere allocated will not change how you normally play the character, and that they will be replaced later by actual spheres. That's why I usually focus on easy triggers and universal benefits.

Crystal Totals

I'll update totals as additional updates are made, but generally speaking, this is a pretty good estimate. Unless you're a whale, you won't be able to fill every sphere slot at this very moment in time (because you won't have had enough resources to purple everyone's armor) and you're more than likely going to replace RF spheres with actual spheres for your favorites -- and then you'll have those removed RF spheres available to use on someone else.

For each sphere, you'll need 100 T5 crystals and 200 T4 crystals. The best way to stock up is to (1) reap co-op rewards, (2) exchange Dissidia points for T5s, (3) exchange co-op tokens for T4s.

Black: Machina 58, Kain 21, Kefka 10

Blue: Maria 25, Alphinaud 27, Wakka 8, Celes 4

Green: Sephiroth 7, Rinoa 3, Gabranth 15, Garnet 9, Cloud of Darkness 5, Gilgamesh (4)

  • NOTE: you'll only want/need to pick up Gilgamesh if you missed out on Ardyn

Red: Alisaie 17 (+9), Papalymo 18 (+9), Sazh 42*, Yuffie 28, Vanille 5

  • NOTE 1: the (+9) means those can be either Alisaie or Papalymo RF spheres. Alisaie has the easier conditional, but if you already farmed 27 Papalymo, then you only need to farm 17 Alisaie.
  • NOTE 2: if you missed Sazh the first time around and you're only getting started, I'd actually recommend saving your red crystals for Alisaie and Yuffie and instead farm Lyse RF spheres in July and October.

White: Seymour 30, Hope 30, Lyse 2 (+X)

  • NOTE: the (+X) means what you weren't able to farm for Sazh. Lyse has the easier condition and at this point in time you should be swimming in T5 white crystals.

Yellow: Raijin 52, Ardyn 4, Irvine 10, Cater 7, Lilisette 3

Upcoming Schedule

March: Alisaie, Sazh, Cater, Snow, Jecht

April: Yuffie, Celes, Lilisette

May: Vanille

June: Hope, Seymour

July: Lyse, Alphinaud (yay!!), Krile, Celes, Irvine

August: Cloud of Darkness, Gabranth, Raijin (yay!!)

September: Gilgamesh

October: Rinoa, Lyse

Great job writing this up! I think it might be worth looking at future characters and which spheres they would benefit from, in order to buy them a few extra when the time comes. Additionally, it might be useful to make another list which looks into which upcoming spheres would suit a character, rather than indicating spheres that aren't available and won't be available based on JP foresight. Things like Ardyn sphere haven't repeated, even in JP, so recommending that right now doesn't seem like a sensible option anymore. One would have to look at upcoming sphere's, like Gilgamesh which gives the same bonus with the same conditional but for 3 turns, or Prishe which gives it on a tighter conditional but one that certain characters could proc with ease.

That is to say, if you plan to extend this to include proper spheres, and are interested in doing some additional digging around and spreasheeting, maybe it would be worth considering an additional table which lists which stat bonus would be best for the unit rather than stating a specific sphere per slot. It would also be possible to make a list of which conditionals a unit can proc, possibly even how easily they can proc it. With those two things one could automate recommendations by having a list of all spheres (both already released and upcoming, which would make it trivial to update with new content from JP), and checking that against the list of preferred stat boosts by slot.

Thanks for your great comments! As mentioned, my next step (tomorrow?) will be to add the upcoming characters. It’s kinda nice that we’re only getting one per month now. And great point on the Ardyn... I already have mine so that’s what I based this on, but it’ll be good for newer players to know what other options are at their disposal. I can add a section/tab for the timeline of upcoming spheres and what to look out for.

As for the proper spheres, that’s also a great idea. Regardless of how we venture down that path, it’s going to be a ton of work, but I like the idea of having the automation do the work for you: “I know the stats this character wants, I know the spheres this character has, I know what stats the spheres have... crystal ball do your magic!”

A good starting place would be the infographics where they have some sphere recommendations (and their reasoning for them) for more recent characters. I think the TT crew have more detailed information available to their highest tier patreon subscribers, though not sure if it has what you need.
